im on the hunt for my next dd and was wondering what differencees there were between the 95-97 & 98-99 gsx's. i had a 98 gs which i just sold & know the rear spoiler & bumpers were changed.

any info would be great........thx :thumb:

95-96 and 97-99 have different body panels.

97+ Has a revised rear suspension.

98+ Has revised thrust bearing design.

98+ Has flashable ECU.

95-97 Have ECUs that can be converted to eprom.

95 May come with an eprom from factory, rare.

95-96 use a log style CAS on the driver side of the motor, while 97-99 use an optical one on the passenger side.

95-96 utilize different coil to plug locations for firing order.

95-96 use different transmissions and transfer cases.

99s use a silver faced gauge cluster.

97-99s supposedly all came factory with an LSD rear differential.

The ECU, transmission, transfer case, rear end, cam angle sensor, thrust bearing design, firing order, intake manifold on the early 95s, etc...

There are quite a few differences, besides just the appearances.

so whats with the the tranny? im guessing the 98+ there were improvements right?

Read my list again. :thumb:

Edit: Apparently you did.

LOL there was only one reply when i did that.

97+ utilize a different ratio, which means your transfer case and rear end need to match, if you have a 97+ transmission, you need a 97+ of the other two, and vice versa.

thx for the replies...so i guess the 99 would be most the most desired?

on the interior, other than gauges?

are all the years leather? btw are gst's leather too?

GSXs came standard with leather, though the buyer could downgrade. GSTs had leather as an option only. 99s are the only one where black leather was an option.

But you can swap in the revised suspension from the 97-99 to a different year, right? I find this the most interesting.

For GST as well, or is this a GSX thing? Improved suspension, I'll have to look into this. :hmm:

I am also curious about the revised thrust bearing.

early build GSX's Also came with large Vented rear disc brakes, not found in later 95+ models
Also some Early builds came with LSD, and ABS. No sunroof, or Power antenna.

Mine has all of the above, plus an eprom ecu. Mar 94 build.

maybe what the question should is what combination of things/improvements should be done to make the gsx perfect.

What are your plans for the gsx? daily driven street car, or are you interested in some kind of racing? My perfect may not be your perfect.

I think that only the '99 GS OZ-Rally Edition was equipped with black leather.
I have never heard about the different suspension/transmission ratios and firing order.
...interesting.
