WOWWW what a great site man. Id buy you a beer if you were closer.....ohh yeh and if i was 3 years older. But the nitrate does stay sharper longer like said. Also it dosent stay shaper longer its said to be 4x normal and it wount rust either. Also some people have trouble with taps breaking off. The titanium shorten's the risk of that.

The material on the cheaper set is just that, cheaper. The other set is probably made out of high speed steel so it will last longer. However, if all you're using them for is to clean threads (i.e. already has threads on them) then the cheaper will work just fine.

i think the two from harbor freight would be good for chasing theads. if you want to cut theads i would buy an american made product. for instance ace hanson or vermont american. for the best machine quality i would buy brown and sharpe, they are very expensive.

i dont even care. You get what you pay for and ill judge the cheap set for you guys. I thought it was a great deal and im cheap bastard. Thing that sucks is the money i spent on that and other products from there is that i cant get some other PERFORMANCE parts  . Pay day wed. though and my friend owes me cash SCOREEE.

Wow... what happened, eldiabloz13?

I was just curious about the difference between the two types of steel. Thanks for the info about the sites, pagoda!

As a rule of thumb, you get what you pay for. Depending on the issue, sometimes it's cheaper to have a machine shop make the proper repair. Good tap and die sets are pretty expensive. If you hear the word "carbide" brace yourself. Now, remember if you break a tap in the bolt you are pretty much screwed unless you are innovative enough to figure out how to remove it. You can't reasonably drill out a tap. I've had to use a torch to blow out the tap and bolt, drill out and helicoil. It all depends on the area and what kind of material you are working in.

Good Luck
