ok.. I have two turbos... one I just rebuilt and one that needs a rebuild.... I THINK that they are both 14b's, But I cannot tell...

I have opened up both turbos and they look different on the inside... like where all the hoses hook up for the oil and water just looks different... it has more holes in it than the other, but the holes are plugged from the factory....

What are the model numbers written on the turbos and what do they mean? And are there any other ways to determine what turbo is what?

The numbers on the casting tell you what it is. If it has not been switched that is. yes the dubble offset blades is a 16g.

Big 16G 49178-04200
Small 16G 49178-05200

Actually your turbo is a Evo III 16g. In the serial number that is cast in the housing there are two numbers that Identify what turbo you have. These are the numbers that are etched in and not cast. 52=small 42=big 47=evoIII Which is what is clearly shown in your picture. Hope this helps a little.

So did you read this post at all, or did you just not believe me?
