Hey whats going on everyone. I own a 1995 GST and this is my first dsm. Im probly going to be hated after saying this but I was a big honda fan till I saw the power and potential mitsubishi has. In the honda world people go around and say jdm this and jdm that but in the mitsubishi world its dsm this and dsm that.. my question is both these cars are originated from japan so wouldnt a mitsubishi be jdm also?? please if I offended anyone asking this im sorry like i said Im still learning bout my GST and its roots so I can go back and shut ### honda owners up when they talk knowledge and we take it to a track my baby is leaving them is the dust.!!:thumb:

I believe you have missunderstood what those 2 mean. JDM is for Japanese domestic market. DSM means diamond star motor; which was a time in which chrysler and mitsubishi were working along side another.

Ive looked up the meaning for both and in both of your response the question is stilled not answered in 1970 is when Chrysler Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors teamed up and at that time the dsm term came alive and the two seperated in 1995 and the name changed again to Mitsubishi Motors North America my question is couldnt u classify mitsubishi as a jdm (japanese domestic motor)

If you actually looked it up and read it, I find it hard to believe you don't comprehend the difference. In all reality 2g 'DSMs' are NOT DSMs at all (regardless of what your plaque says..) especially the N/Ts which share no link to true DSMs at all... With that all aside many accept 2g turbo Talons and Eclipses as 'DSMs'

Basically it pertained to vehicles that came out of that specific plant... Even till this day Chrystler and Mitsu have links but that is not what classified something as a 'DSM'.

The T/E/Ls were built and designed by Chrysler and equipped with Mitsubishi drive trains. DSMs are NOT imports yet we get labeled as so due to the Mitsubishi ties as well as it being a 4 cylinder. I find it easier to obliterate Hondas than try to take out tin can Foxbodies with 350 shots so I don't mind getting grouped with the true imports and on average laying waste to them by quite a large margin.

Your Eclipse isn't 'JDM' its USDM. Its more 'domestic' than a large majority of the vehicles built now a days that have been outsourced to the extremities of the continent.

If anything you can consider it a wild card of sorts but not JDM in any way and the term is greatly looked down upon by the community.

As far as I know dsms were never produced in japan with the exception of the gallant vr4 so no a dsm can't b classified as a jdm

GVR4s are NOT DSMs... And what ever you do, for your own sake, don't tell a GVR4 owner he owns a DSM, things will not end well... ROFL

wow...thats all I can say thanks so much with your knowledge you helped me understand the difference...when I had my honda civic si I thought I was doing big things with the b16 1.6 v-tec till I drove a friends eclipse gst and from there fell striaght in-love with gst...I never knew or thought u could classify our cars as a domestic even though it has a japanese name damn...Im a newbie and dont know alot of things thank you and others that responed...I cant say again thanks for the break down and the way you explained it cause others would have made me feel retard:hellyeah:

DSM - Diamond-Star Motors .. in 1987, a Joint venture between Mitsu and Chrysler to produce vehicles, designed by the two and using Mitsu components with a new plant in Normal Il. 1995 is when Mitsu bought out Chrysler's share in the package and renamed the plant.

JDM - Japanese Domestic Market. ..Japanese-made motor vehicles and components made for Japan use only - as the name emplies. JDM motors, that we get for our units, were originally installed in Japanese only market products that will also fit in our domestic made vehicles.

I have a JDM Galant VR4 motor with B16G turbo and came with 510cc injectors, which the Japanese Galant used, in my Laser. In my '91 Eclipse, I have a JDM auto tranny..

We have a spelling/grammar rule on this site. I suggest you pay attention to it or you'll start getting warnings.

5. Use proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation when posting in our Tech Forums - don't use texting/instant messaging lingo here. This isn't an English class, but we demand that you at least make an attempt or your posts will be deleted. Internet Explorer users should download IEspell or just use Firefox since it has spell check built-in.

Bro, show some respect and spell correct. We strive on this site to be above the rest. It's not a big deal to have correct grammar and spelling. It only takes an extra second to look over your post. Please don't be a dick to those who work hard to keep our community going and in order. Thanks

Oh boy.

Read the rules. Follow them.
I can't form a mechanism to decipher your sentences because your lack of punctuation spelling.
(Maybe you're showing us a lack of intelligence?)

If you're a new member, don't mouth off to a site leader.
Part of the rules here is to at least be able to form elementary sentences.

We have some class here, at DSMtuners.

Welcome.

"U" is a letter, not a word.

I went ahead and highlighted all your grammar mistakes in red for you. You should really make an attempt to listen to the asses who are on the site's staff to enforce rules.
