This just started happening at the track sunday. I was in the top of third gear and it started breaking up. I hit fourth and when it hit full boost it kinda felt like fuel cut. I know thats not possible because of the dsmlink. I first thought it was the bov, but I just drove it and now Im not sure. Its just losing power, feels just like the fuel cut used to. Im trying to go to the track tomorrow and want to get this fixed asap, any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks for the space.

Do you have any logs we can look at?

Do you know if your getting any knock?

I think there if a feature in dsmlink to enable fuel cut when you get to much knock.

Has anything changed on your car recently?

Is it always in 3rd gear?

Does the car drive ok on the freeway?

How is your idle?

Basically fill out the above and post it back in. It will help us diagnose the problem better.

This is what is happening to me! 2nd, 3rd and 4th it feels as if fuel is gettin cut off.. I have a 97 tsi with a 1st gen 6 bolt engine in it.. Not too sure what year ( bought it from a clueless dealer ).. Regret it too.. Woulda, Should, Coulda bought eith er a stock talon or one from someone who modded it themselves.

Do you have any logs we can look at? No, laptop is a p.o.s

Do you know if your getting any knock? See above

I think there if a feature in dsmlink to enable fuel cut when you get to much knock. Good ?

Has anything changed on your car recently? Installed a JMF smim and turned the boost up to 30psi

Is it always in 3rd gear? No, just when it hits high boost. I turned it down to 20 and its still doing it

Does the car drive ok on the freeway? Yeah, it acts normal under normal driving, pefect temp, oil pressure, etc

How is your idle? As good as it can be w/272's(normal)

Basically fill out the above and post it back in. It will help us diagnose the problem better.

BUT.....When I popped the coolant cap before I took it out, it was a little low. I filled it to the top. Car was completely cold. When I got back I posted this and called a buddy, went back out and there was some coolant on the floor beneath the overflow. Popped the lid on it and it was full to the rim. The car used to do that when it had a low spot in the head, had it shaved and its been golden since; until now. I guess its pushing air into the waterjacket again, but what would cause the cut-out? I took the plugs out and they're brownish around the porclein(sp?) When I popped the first head gasket the pistons were nice and shiny from the anitfreeze. Shined a flashlight in the cylinders and they're not shiny at all. I have no f'n clue whats going on here. I could get a log but Im afraid to keep driving it like this. Sorry for the long winded rant, but damn I wanted to go racing tomorrow. Ran a 12.3 missing 4 gear because of another stupid problem.(leaky slave cylinder) Thanks guys.

possibly plugs and wires? My car was asking really F_ed up when my wires were shitty.

I'd run the car for a short while after it warms up and do a log. We need to see what your O2's and timing is at.

You said see above on my question about knock. Not to sure what i'm looking for.

Did you boost leak test it recently?

Couldnt get a log, but Im afraid to drive it now because of the coolant. Im thinking head gasket, but the cutting out is wierd.

I dont think it blew the gasket, I think the combustion seal failed. Its a Mitsu 4 layer steel gasket with copper o-rings in the block. I think when its seeing high boost, its pushing air into the coolant system. BUT..... I cant figure out why its cutting out, unless its pushing coolant into the cylinder. Im this close-----> <--------- to selling this damn thing.

Pressurised the coolant system to see if its leaking into the cylinders, nothing. Gonna do a compression check and boost leak check tomorrow. Im starting to doubt if its the head gasket. Would running too lean, or too rich cause it to cut out like that? Im scared to drive it now that the laptop is working. Thanks again for the help guys.

Checked for boost leaks, found MASSIVE leaks around the tb. The set screws on both my afpr, and bov were leaking. As well as all the bolts in the tb and flange. Teflon tape is the greatest invention ever. Still havent drove it yet. but the system holds boost, and the coolant system holds 25 psi rock steady.
