i just put in a 2100 pressure plate and street disk into my car. im hopeful that its a awd thing cause of the stresses at high rpm launches and stuff. i have just got done breaking her in and ive already taken a few GT's and a modded s2k. she holds beautifully, on my maiden test drive i could really tell all of my available power was getting to the wheels and not getting soaked in the stock clutch. it grabbed like a mofo when i left the shop, they had a gravel parking lot and i had to torque steer my way off of it, i so couldnt control it it was pretty dam funny. but not that ive got the new feel down its like a whole new car. a 1/2 throttle 4500rpm shift will scratch the pavement like nobody's business. im pretty confident that all will be well as im not too modded(intake, hard ic pipes, greddy type-s, 3" catback).

My ACT 2600 died while cruising on the highway at 65mph. I was 3 hours into a 5 hour drive and one of the springs fell out. I of course lost my gears and had to make the rest of the trip rev matching to shift. The worst part was that was on the way there. I had to turn around two days later and drive back another 5 hours that way. My tranny took one hell of a beating because of that disc breaking.

The clutch had about 2,000 miles on it without any drag racing. (I was trying to baby the car to keep it somewhat reliable.)

My bellhousing is ALSO ruined from the ACT clutch...oh and guess what ACT will do about it.......NOTHING...so im out another grip of cash for a new flywheel, clutch, bellhousing...not to cheap of a fix....ACT should be sued and be put out of business...

My second ACT clutch died again. This time the clutch is slipping 1-5 gears. There is engagement problems. My guess is that one or more of the bolts holding the clutch to the flywheel broke.....we'll find out Saturday.

This is pretty odd but why is everyone complaining about an ACT clutch awd? I don't see any fwd guys complaining.

I put 10K miles on my 2600 w/street disc in my 90 FWD with no problems. I have since swapped it into my 93 AWD and have about 2K more miles on it with no problems (yet)
I guess I've been lucky as I've beat the piss out of that poor clutch with hard AWD launches and ran slicks on it with my FWD. The only problem I've had is it destroying my clutch linkage.

Are the failures only happening on certain batches? (certain production dates?)
I hope you guys get everything worked out with ACT.

Well if you look you can see that 99.9% of these problems are happening with awd. The wierd thing is that the 2600 and the 2100 and fwd or awd use the same street disc but different pressure plates. AWD's are much more harsh on trany's though. There is no excuse for these clutches to break it ACT's fault, period. But if anything was going to give on these clutches it would be the springs b/c thats where all the load is going when there is nothing else to give.

That's a good theory, but mine died after 242 miles, no launches, I was babying the thing because I was worried it was gunna break... obviously I was right :thumbdown

I used the same pressure plate for my AWD that I took off my FWD... Maybe thats why I haven't had an issue yet?

Well I got the tranny off and replaced the stock flywheel with the ACT Streetlite Flywheel and inspected the clutch and its components, everything looked perfectly ok. But BOTH PINS WERE MISSING. So I replaced them. However, at the same time I took off the yoke and a used Avionics Sealant, so that f*cker isn't going to leak anymore. It takes 2 days for the sealant to dry. I turned the rear tires to make sure the driveshaft was secured so it wouldn't fall as I rolled the car out the shop. And I found that the passenger side tire was not turning the driveshaft. The axle had shattered inside the Rear diff. So again the car is out of comission and I can not check to see if the Clutch is working now.

Do I have sh*tty luck or what?

My car was hard to get into gear latly, I had installed an act2600 clutch while everything was apart. When I would put the car in reverse, The whole car would some what clunk into reverse, As it would not go in without clunking or grinding.
Today it was hard to get into first gear and it would not go into 2nd sometimes.

The car started to make a knocking noise, or a noise like something was smashing off something. When the clutch was pushed in and left out, The noise would change somewhat.
What did it sound like when your clutch broke? This is very loud and I do not want to start it.
Please help me out here.
Thanks in advance.

I guess I'll add to the carnage.

BTW...this is a LIGHTLY modded FWD.

Basics are this: Buddy put this brand new in his 92 FWD TSi on a Tuesday, decided to part out the car on Friday (he had some kind of tranny issue, but I took clutch out and inspected, all looked VERY well)

I installed this ACT 2600 on Sunday. Tuesday it took a giggling flop. Wednesday I pulled the trans and...."VOILA"

I've NEVER seen anything like this....

GOD ALMIGHTY!!!!

Was all the tranny bolts in place. The lack of dowel pins will cause the tranny to misalign slightly but that looks like someone put the tranny in upside-down or something. Yea I saw the pic... missing dowel pins.

An another note. I replaced the flywheel and inspected the clutch to see why the new ACT2600 (with maybe 50 miles) was slipping. I could not find anything wrong with the clutch. My problem must be else where.

Did act replace anyones clutch for free yet? The shop that did all the work to my car is going to be taking my car today, I do not want to pay over $400.00 for another clutch plus labor to install it just because act made a bad batch of clutches.

You people aren't listening. ACT IS NOT MAKING BAD CLUTCHES. Its the install. If you are missing the dowel pins, your clutch will eat itself away. EVEN STOCK CLUTCHES WILL HAVE THIS PROBLEM IF THE PINS ARE MISSING!!!! I had done 2 installs. One had the dowel pins, one didn't. The one that didn't had clutch die. The one that did was fine.

And now, the Talon has a new ACT2600. This time with the dowel pins re-installed. We will see what will happen now.

However call ACT and ask them if the can help you out in any way. Tell them that you have a DSM and that you heard that clutch failures are common. You might be able to get a clutch for a good price.

is there a way to check the so called dowel pins. i had a shop do my install and i want to make sure theyre in there. i assume theyre just some sort of rods inserted into the holes between the engine and bellhousing right?

My clutch didnt get taken out of the car yet, Hopefully within the next two day.
BUT.. My clutch is only 60days old and there is a 90 warrenty, So hopefully i can well get it replaced, No matter what the cause was, I was going 4mph around a corner, NOT BEATING ON THE CAR!!!
