Ok well about a week ago i ran out of accidently ran out of gas. the damn light never came on or anything. Ok so i finally filled her back up and 5 days later (yest) i hit about a quarter tank left i was in the middle of driving and idling at at least 10 stoplights so far and suddenly it dies again. Just like it did when i had ran out of gas. When i push in the clutch or put it in neutral it just can not idle at all. Im sure this has to do something with me running out of gas earlier. Well today i tried to drive it around again, it just sputters around 0 rpm and eventually can not stay alive and dies. but when i give it gas it seems to act perfectly normal. I let it sit in my garage, so now 10 min after that i go back out and it now can idle somewhat fine again?? i just dont understand, is it the fuel filter? fuel pump? i just dont know. well for now it is ok but i would like to get somthing checked or fixed because its pretty dangerous to be driving and to push in the clutch and die while its going very fast

if anyone with some knowledge on this subject can please help me i would very much appreciate it

You probably burned up your pump. The FP's are cooled by the fuel, so if you run one dry, it overheats.

Could be a clogged filter too, when you get down that low on fuel, you can get trash in the lines.

see it makes more sense that it would be the filter because why would this happen 5 days later unless something big piece of crap jus suddlenly got lodged in there. but then again it also makes sense that the fuel pump would overheat. ugggh what to do. i heard the fuel filter is real difficult to replace as well

filter is more challenging to replace if you have A/C and cruise control, not so bad if you dont.

Yeah. I made sure I replaced my fuel filter when the engine was out of the car because it's a huge pain to replace due to it's location. Sounds like you sucked up some of the crap in the bottom of the gas tank and clogged the fuel filter. If you don't have the tools and patience, you may be better off getting Mitsu to do it.

Guys, isn't the fuel filter right near the battery? You see last week I went and bought a new one to replace it, havn't got around to it yet though so i dont have first hand. From looking under the hood at what I thought was the fuel filter I could just take out the battery and have no problems, but it seems more difficult than that after reading what you guys are saying.

I see. thanks for the warning. :) :dsm: Maybe I will have my girlfriend out their wrenchin for me (shes got the small hands)

yes i figured it wouldnt be too difficult judging if i just remove the battery. so everyone tends to agree that it would be the fuel filter then over the fuel pump most likely correct?
