Halifax,
Hey there,

My car has what I think is the infamous lifter tick..

- happens worse when cold
- seems to be coming from the top of the engine
- goes away after it revs past ~ 2500 rpm..
- much louder at ~2000 rpm than at idle
- happens w/ and w/o clutch engaged
- happens when car is sitting still and when moving

I'm using Mobil 1 10W30..

If this does sound like the lifter tick.. should I just try and clean them and if that doesn't work I'll just buy the new 3mm version?

Thanks, Tim

Considering how cheap the new style lash adjusters are and the pain involved in popping the rockers on and off, I'd just replace them and move on. It's well known that cleaning them isn't a fix, at best a short term bandaid before they start making noise again.

The new adjusters also isn't 100%. They still make some noise but it a big improvement.
