Alrighty folks, I really need to get this solved as I'm pretty nervous that i'm either starving my engine of oil or grossly overfilling it.
Recently did an engine swap and it was a 7 bolt for a 7 bolt. the dip stick that came with the JDM one was broken at the top, so me not thinking, i tossed it and just used my old one. Now when i do an oil change, 2 quarts makes the oil read at MAX! (clearly that isn't right....) so to be on the safe side, i put 3 quarts in and it's reading sky high on the dip stick. There are no dents in the oil pan, and unless there's some mythical creature living in the bottom of my engine, i don't know where that extra volume is lost to....
i'll do an oil change tomorrow or the day after and take some pictures

How many different dip sticks are there and what are the differences in length? Thanks.

For the record, my dip stick has a T handle on it and says "engine oil", not one of the loop handles.

I would get another known new dip stick in there there cheap. oil and filter change is 4.5 qts. Get one from extreme psi. Make sure the tube is in the engine as far as it can go. Possibly having a probem with it being hung up some how going into the engine block???

the tube is all the way in and bolted to the block. it isn't bent in any way, shape or form. The dip stick was from the old engine which was blown and gave correct readings then. Come to think of it..... it kinda looks like the same one from the 420a engine.....
Any way i could trouble someone to head out to the garage, clean off their dip stick, and measure the length, position of the "add" and "full" markers? I'd appreciate it :D

Well actually you could just put the 4.5 quarts in yourself, crank the engine and let it run for about 5 minutes. Shut it off for about 20 minutes and take a dipstick reading. That will be your new oil fill level. Mark your dipstick and be forever happy until you get your hands on the correct stick for your motor.

4.5 quarts.

You prob. should have pulled the oil pan when you go it to clean out all the sludge that is most likely in there. Still wouldn't be a bad idea to do.

I see where you're coming from Liquidx. The first JDM engine i got was filled with sludge! Took it back and demanded they replace it. The second one only had a slight gold tint to everything under the valve cover, so trying to eliminate unnecessary work, I assumed that the engine was in better shape.
Either way, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.
New dip stick = Ordered.
Thanks for the input folks.
