Whats up guys,

I searched this topic but couldn't get an exact answer. What should be the proper idle setting on a 1997 Eclipse GST. I recently had the motor rebuilt by a good friend. He took his time and did a good job, but he is currently out of the country on a 2 week vacation. My car runs great, right now we have it running rich, I dont want to put much stress on the engine to at least 1000 miles. My car idles at about 680 to 715. Now I'm reading this number from my Super AFC. Its usually a little low, like 20 - 30 revs. But I was just wondering what should the idle be for a 97 GST. The car idles smooth, no sputtering or anything. I was just wondering if that was too low or a sign of low compression. IM going to get a compression test done when my friend gets back in town.

Also I get a little but of oil coming up on my valve cover, someone once told me that all DSM do that but I just wanted to ask you guys. Other than that the car runs perfect. o and the reason I had to rebuild the motor was because I messed up teh bearigns when my oil pump went out while racing a 350Z.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Stock idle is 750rpm. Is the oil on top of the valve cover? If it is get a new oil cap or replace the seal on the oil cap.

Car should be idling right around 750 and the oil on the valve cover could be a few different things. It could be a bad seal on the oil cap or it could be a crack in the valve cover. Usually the valve cover's crack from over tightening the bolt's. Look around your bolt's and see if there are any crack's that you can see. If not try replacing the oil fill cap.
