Oil question and oil level.

So on my 91NA talon i just changed to oil. I was on my dumb ass time and i put in 5 w30 i drove it for two days and then once i checked the Service Manual i changed it back to 10 w30 Valvoline synthetic 75K high milage oil, the book said that its ok to use 5-30 on realy cold weathers and its been snowing up here so i guess my engine will survive but the oil level its still at low. why is that? Has the 5-30 hurt my engine for the two days i was driving it? or should i stay away from synthetic because my engine has 87K miles on it. Any ideas

Your car is fine. How many quarts did you put in? Sometimes the recommended level is not quite enough. I know it suggests 4.2 for mine and it usually takes about 4.5-4.8.

If you checked it right after you did the oil change and it was at a higher level, i would suggest looking for leaks. 5w30 and 10w30 have nearly no difference. You will be fine, just fill it up with oil and make sure you fill it up with an adequit amount. For the next few fill-up's (gas), check the oil level to make sure you are not leaking oil.

I put 5 quarts i know i'm leaking oil from my valve cover gasket a bit, but it drips more right by this screw looking thing right above the header on the left side as soon as the valve cover ends. I think my oil pan leaks too but i think its the oil from the valve cover make it look like its leaking so i need to change the gasket on that and check everything but its so freaking cold i don't even want to put windshield washer fluid in my car.

You're running 30 weight. You'll be fine. The 5W and 10W refer to their effective viscosity in sub-zero temperatures. Google API viscosity, or read-up on Bob Is The Oil Guy
