Okay so I know the advantages of a Stroker motor. That is a larger displacement and more torque off line and higher horsepower capabilities.

But what is a Destroker?

I heard a couple of older gentlemen talkin about a destroked starion at the strip a few weeks back. I have also heard some dsm owners saying they were looking at building a destroker. What is that? Why would you want to decrease displacement in regards to racing?

As far as i know its safer to rev higher on a destroked motor. Thats why little 1.6l hondas rev to 10k. More displacement=more exhaust gases=lower turbo spool time. More torque and power earlier

yea ill agree to. not to sure about the main reasons. but a honda b16 i ran to 10 all day but had valve springs to be safe. a honda team de strocked a b16 to a 1.5 and smashed it to 13k and used that for the salt falts. hit like 205. id say if you were to destroke a dsm. and build it right you could ###### through on a massive turbo and build mad boost at top end. but you wouldnt really be going anywhere till that thing spooled haha. but would be very nice to see someone do this and get some resualts.

Its already been done and its simply for the fact of pure RPM to spool massive turbos. Destroking means they can increase the length of the rods with a shorter piston gives a better rod ratio in turns more efficient power. Only people who can take REAL advantage from this are people are really up there like magnus or shep. There really is no point to run a destroked for the average DD just because the turbo you bolt on there can be spooled better with a regular 2.0 or a 2.3 with an added displacement advantage. Some people run a 2.0 with long rods and a shorter piston on a stock 88mm crank so that the rod ratio will be longer and gives a smoother and higher torque peak.

Thanks guys. I was planning on stroking or destroking my current build But I like know about stuff. It just seemed to me that there would be no good reason to destroke.

Hmm it seems like people wanting to spin to like 13 or 14k would just get a rotary.

Often times people take the 4g64 block and destroke that, from a 2.4 to like a 2.2 or 2.3

That's exactly what a dsm with a desrtoked motor is. No one here is destroking the 2.0 liter engine. They're building a stroker motor (2.3 or 2.4) and destroking it to a 2.1 or 2.2 liter to get the best of both worlds. More torque and faster spool without sacrificing rpm's.

Im actually thinking of building a destroked 2.4l myself. I want to give myself an edge when drag racing. I have an automatic transmission and its qicker/safer to stay in 3rd and not even go into overdrive (4th). That means that the rpm's are going to be relitivity high by the end. I believe kiggly is around 9600+ RPM at the end of a quarter mile (and that is with tall slicks on)

kinda late, but would low compression pistons still be a good idea for a destroked engine?
