I have a pretty bad boost leak between my UICP (Dejon) and TB. I used an 11gal air tank charged to 60psi and was only able to get about 7psi after 15 seconds on the boost leak tester valve (the valve is a bit restrictive) and would leak down in about 10-15 seconds. Soapy bubbles only showed at the top of the elbow/TB gasket and not the TB/plenum gasket. No bubbles at the compressor/LICP, BOV flange, UICP coupler, or UICP end of the UICP/IC coupler, and I didn't test the IC end of the LICP and UICP couplers (but didn't hear any hisses), but I'll check those again once I can pressurize higher.

The Dejon pipe replaces the TB elbow (didn't realize that until I got the parts), so I had to pull of the elbow and didn't have a gasket.

Anyway, the Dejon TB flange is alot thinner than the aluminum TB elbow flange - only about 1/8" thick.

I'm wondering if I should do something above and beyond the normal call of duty when I install the new gaskets. I was thinking of RTV on both sides of both gaskets, but I'm not sure if that's good enough. Also, I'm not sure how long I should let the RTV set up before I drive it again. I have a POS pickup I can use, but MAN would I like to see what my mods can do with an air-tight intake ASAP!

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I replaced my throttle body shaft seals last month. When I put the throttle back on, I sprayed Copper Gasket maker on the elbow, then sprayed it on the gasket on the throttle side of the gasket. You put about 3 - 4 layers on it. It cures in a couple of hours and I haven't had a leak since from it. Again use it with the regular gasket, it will fill any gaps the gaskets leaves. You can spary the copper spray on the gasket, just make darn sure you cover everything in the vicinity as well as the hole into the throttle (where the air goes into) otherwise you will have a real mess on your hands. :thumb:

did you buy the uicp used? because if you did im almost positive you didnt get the bolts dejon supplies so you dont run into a problem for having a thinner throttle body elbow. if not spend the $3 dollars per bolt and get them....

Nah, I got it new, and they provided the shorter bolts.

travislaw - Thanks! Then I'll have yet another can of exotic, compressed carcinogens (but only cancer-causing in California - I'm in New Mexico - so I'm safe) on my shelf which make me look like I know what I'm doing! ;) Would you recommend that I wait a day for things to set up/harden/cure/whatever with that copper gasket maker, or can I repeat my boost leak test a couple of hours later?

I ordered my new gaskets this morning, but based on the problems we had trying to find them at Autozone, I'm not super confident that they'll be the correct ones. The Felpro catalog had different gasket model numbers for 95-96 and 97-99, and it came up under the Felpro part number in their computer as a "Fuel injector gasket" for both Felpro part numbers. Oh well, it was only $4.

I had the same problem as you... I looked at autozone and checker, no luck... I finally just ordered new gaskets from slowboy. You might want to check the biss screw and your lower injector seals too, mine were leaking like swiss cheese!

I guess I'll see tomorrow when it shows up. Part of me wants it to be my only leak, but part of me wants it to be something that makes me tear something else I've never touched before off of the car so that I know more about my car. But the part of me that wants it to be my only leak also wants to see what my mods can do without a boost leak...soon :D

I ordered my gaskets from MachV.com so I made sure I had the right ones. If your O-Rings are leaking they are a good spot to get those too. As far as time for setting goes, if you want to be extra safe, I would wait 5 or 6 hours. When I did this to my J-Pipe I only waited 30 minutes and I didn't leak at all, so it depends on if you want to be safe or not. I tell you what though, that stuff seal like nothing else I have ever used. Just make sure you follow the directions and wait at least 30 seconds between coats and try to keep the coats even.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but i've been having issues with the same upic pipe. Its new and i have put on new gaskets from the dealer, but the damn thing still leaks. Am i doing something wrong? I would think that it shouldn't require me to put any type of rtv or copper spray to seal this damn thing. But I guess thats what i'm left with.:|

I haven't had time to check the forum in like a month, and the day I finally get back to it, someone's pulled up one of my posts from a year ago!:D

My first Dejon UICP leaked at the weld between the TB flange and pipe (where the TB elbow used to be). He sent me a new one and it has held just fine for a year.

I recommend using some form of gasket sealer on both sides of the TB. I still have my stock gasket between the IM and the TB, but I put copper gasket maker on both sides of the gasket. The felpro gaskets turned out to be the correct ones, but I only used one and put a good layer of copper spray on both sides. It's pretty damned tricky getting it all back together without smearing the copper gasket stuff; it is SUPER tacky but too gooey to hold the metal gasket in place for more than a second or two.

Because you have to unbolt the TB to take the UICP off, I suggest going above and beyond when you put it together. I've actually considered cutting the UCIP into two pieces and joining them with a coupler so it is more like the stock setup just so I can pull the UICP without compromising the TB gasket seals. Would take a couple of minutes with a hacksaw.

Anyway, I did a boost leak test a couple of weeks ago, and those gaskets don't leak a bit one year later.

Good luck!

When you received the new gaskets wads the throttle body/UICP elbow gasket a paper like material or was it metal? The only way that I have gotten that area to seal is by using RTV.

If you're talking to me, they were paper. I only used one between the UICP flange and TB and re-used the metal gasket between the TB and IM. This thread was me asking if I should use RTV just for good measure, which I did, so I never even tried doing it without RTV. It worked, so I'd recommend it.

UICP to TB was metal, TB to IM was paper. Well i'm going to slap some rtv or copper spray on there, since i have both sitting around.

It was to playitloud but no biggy. I received a paper gasket for the throttle body/elbow just like you, kenamond. I used RTV on the paper gasket and torque it down to factory specs and that thing leaked like a sieve. So, I just put my old metal gasket back on with some RTV
