I lost the only key I had to my 92 Talon and had a key cut based on the vin from a local Chrysler dealership today that gave me an odd issue. The key would LOCK the driver side door, but it would not unlock it. It wouldn't do anything in any of the other locks or ignition. Could this be an incorrectly cut key or does it sound like the locks/ignition have been changed?

I thought of driving to the dealership about 30 minutes out and having them cut one also to see if the first guy did something wrong, but I'm not sure if it's a lost cause... The good news is it only cost me about $4.

sounds like user error on the dealership part, I doubt both the key and ignition were both replaced, without the previous owner notifying you....

If you know how to pull the tumbler assembly out of the hatchback (which is only held in by a clip), take it in to a locksmith and they can cut a key to match the tumbler set since one key unlocks everything .. and then get duplicates cut and keep them in a safe place.

The lock code number is on the pass side door lock. You have to pull the lock to get it. The drivers side lock seems worn enough to let that new key half way work. The key needs to be recut before you go switching locks.

The locks could also just be frozen if they haven't been used in a long time. When I first got my car I had to use a ton of wd40 in order to use the key in them. Maybe give that a shot if the key was indeed cut correctly. Using the power locks isn't enough you have to physically use the key or else they may freeze up

I do know the old key opened both my doors daily without issue. The hatch lock is froze up though I never use it. I'm going to try to have a couple different dealerships cut a key and see if that works later today.

I would take it back to the stealership that cut it and have them redo it. That way it is free. I wouldn't leave there until it works in everything. I had to have it re-cut 4-5 times for my Nissan pickup DD before it finally worked, and I only paid for the one that ended up working.

i work at a chrysler dealer and sometimes they don't cut the key properly . it happened to my sons 98 eclipse . they seem to have a tough time cutting mitsu keys

Have another key re cut. I'm surprised they cut you a key. I went to my local Mitsu and Chrysler dealers and they could not cut me a key, saying that my car was too old and not in the system. 1992 Laser awd and I even had the title with me.

I had another dealer try cutting the key and it worked just fine. Was a bit more expensive ($20) but they gave me the code If I ever had to have another cut.
