Just took my new Talon to the dealership to have it inspected for the Transfer case leak recall and lower ball joints..... Well apparently the leak from my T-case is not from the yolk so it isn't covered by the recall and my ball joints are aftermarket so they wouldn't service them either. My question is where else can the T-case leak from and how could I go about repairing the leak?

It could be leaking on the input side of the transfer case that bolts up to the trans. It's not that hard to drop the transfer case at all. Remove down pipe and a couple of bolts on the t case.

Should it be pretty obvious where the seals go once the T-case gets pulled?

Yeah, think about it.. You only have an input shaft and an output shaft. The input shaft seal is the one on the side of the t-case where it bolts up to the transmission and the output shaft seal is at the tail end of the t-case where the slip-yoke for the drive shaft goes. ;)

hummmmm. I wonder if our cars are still covered by the dealer as far as the T-case recall. I wonder, because i have all new seals on my T-case yet i still have a drip coming from the end "were it connects to D-shaft"

:confused::confused: (excuse the thread jack)

Yes they are... That is the slip yoke leaking. It has a brass plug in the end that likes to leak. If it has never been done it must be covered because it is a safety recall. The fix is a new slip yoke.

Its probly leaking from the yoke then at the end where there is a cap(hard to see), you can try to seal it but I tried that and it just leaked again so I bought a new yoke.

Dam I dident see gravedigger post, ahhh.

What you should of done is ask them if the recall was performed on your car, they should know by the vin number and if not, have them replace the seal on the output shaft of the t case and ask them since there in there to replace the input seal also. Dosent matter if the output shaft is leaking or not, it's a recall. It's not that hard to do so its on you. You might also check your yoke for a leak, it usually sprays all over the body right above the t case yoke on the body.

The recall has not been performed, they looked up my vin. So I guess its time to battle with the dealership :banghead:

If you want to battel with them go ahead, but is not that hard to do. I think the recall was around in 95 or 99, but they should still perform it. I wrote some more stuff in that post right above you should look at, about the yoke.

Just called the dealership and they are saying my slave is leaking (which it is) and it is blowing back onto the transfer case and making it look like its leaking. I won't battle with them too long cause I don't have a problem doing the work myself. I don't have my jack handy or else I would take a peek at the yolk.

For all of you above you should read this.

If you go out and search you'll find I had a hand in hhe original recall. It isnt covered anymore. At least not legally, good faith only. The recall kit was available as of the thred i posted and probably still is.

It could leak from any of the 3 seals that mate the case together, it could be the intermediate shaft seal that mates to the trans, or the tail shaft seal.

This was my first time opening it up it was easy as hell.

Getting it back on the car with the new spline coupler was a bi*** haah since the intermediate shaft on te trans was new and the coupler were new the splines had to be perfectly aligned before she slid on.

i searched last night and this mourning. I cannot find a picture of this mystery "brass seal" i keep hearing is the true cause of this mess.

I get it its in the yoke, but can it be replaced, removed, installed. when i dropped my "everything" last time, i jammed RTV inside the yoke and never saw any brass ? so any one have a pic or link of what this looks like.

Update: Dealer replaced my cars T-case in 1999.

The plug is in the end of the shaft nearest to the drive shaft u-joint. It keeps the fluid from running out of the end of the yoke and no you can't replace it or anything. I'm sure you could take it out and mess around with a plug and some rtv, but the right way to do it is to replace the yoke... End of story. :thumb:
