I want to run a daul exhaust on my N/T, I want it to work and give a bit of a performance increase, while it is mostly for looks, but I don't wanna be like a low budget honda ricer and only hang a muffler there that doesn't do anything but look pretty... so I want to know what size exaust piping should I use if I am splitting it after the header, before the cat, running two cats, and than from teh cats back to the mufflers, what size should that be??? I am currently running a single 2.5inch exhuast with stock header... but I'd like to know what everyone here thinks...

Only problem your going to have with splitting before the cat is room for the 2 cats. Might actually be easier to do it after the cat.

ow budget honda ricer and only hang a muffler there that doesn't do anything but look pretty
back when I was still in the highschool, there was a kid with a prelude that had a muffler mounted on one side that wasnt hooked to the exhaust ROFL

not worth it, just spend the money on headers. dual exhaust on a 4cyl is just about pointless you won't get any more hp, and all it does is add weigh to your car. thats why alot of people have it there but not attached they don't wanna ruin a already good exhaust.

If you do end up doing it, you dont need 2 cats, you do it after the cat like said above and use a y pipe, personally I would just stay with single exhaust, I didnt really feel any power gain.

I don't really want it too much for power, but want it for looks / sound... But what size piping should I run??? One person told me 2.5inch, but i think daul 2.5inch is gonna be too big.... I'd like input on that.... Reason to do before the cat = emissions for my car LOL... 2 cats filter better than 1 cat.

You only need one cat, it will be fine.

Before people continue to post saying its not worth it and no power gain, re-read his first post, he said "mostly for looks"

And if the "person who said 2.5" you are talking about is me, I said no bigger then that. I would actually use stock sized pipe.

You need to re-read his first post as well.... "I want it to work and give a bit of a performance increase"...

... any decrease in backpressure will give some increase... i said i want it to work and essientially NOT kill the engine and make it bog down... anotherwords, i want it to give me some pep but it is mostly all for looks and sound... I am unsure of what mufflers still, but I'd like to know what people think for sizing of the piping, 1.5? 1.75? 2? 1.25??? 2.5??? 2.25??? i just don't exactly understand how it works, so i want some input...

make sure when you do it you get some pictures and what not. Im thinking about doin this as well..

all i am doing is picking out the mufflers and mounting them... i am gonna weld a Y pipe onto a stock flange that i have cut and sanded just right, than having an exhaust shop put them on, but i am mounting them on the piece of steel that the stock muffler holder bolts onto the actual car to, because there is one of those pieces of metal on each side...

I saw an nt in the junk yard with a dual exhaust setup, wish i had my camara. It looked ok,it wasn't like oh my god look at that 1g with dual exaust!!!or anything but it wasn't bad.The piping on it was stock sized. If your'e going dual,i wouldn't go anything bigger than stock, remember with NA aplications you need a litlle bit of back pressure.

I wanted to do the same thing with my 1g n/t but i heard it doesn't do much for the price so what i did is I had the pacesetter header and downpipe. I cut the stock pipe after the cat and put a straight pipe there and it ended up costing about 20 bucks and i can feel some power gain.

You might run into a problem. The gastank hangs way too low on the FWDs and the rear end is a lateral bar and is not independant suspension. The exhaust has to go over the lateral bar.

You can get away with go under the suspension parts on a 1G AWD, but not this. You'll have to split the exhaust right before the muffler, which will look stupid if it's shown to other motorists.

Or you can just have the pipes hang super low. It's all in what you want.

not true. I too thought this, but after reading someones write up about it, it made sence to me that back pressure in not needed.

The only people I have heard talk like that own hondas that don't make torque.

But to agree with you, I noticed no noticable loss of power in the low rpm's when I opened up my exhaust. But I did notice a lack of power at higher rpm's (4-7k) when I got tired of my loud exhaust and put stock-like muffler back on.

i like the way my 3" exhaust hangs below the rear axle.looks kinda badass, reminds me of the way they run it on novas and other misc muclecars.

I did not do the project because it will take way too long for materials, by the time I would do it, I would have to be going to college daily anyways, but I do have it all planned, What I'd do is make a custom flange that is a y pipe out of the cat, than 2 pipes straight back, custom brackets to hang it on of course, i'd put a little heat shield on between the gas tank and where the STOCK piping was going over the axle... because here is what you have to do from there, get the bendable/flexable exhaust tubing and use 2 pipes of it to go up and over that and than back into regular piping again behind the axle to go into two nice mufflers. But that is pretty much how I'd do it... or the plan of when I get money TO do it LOL.

you could always run 2 2" custom exhaust systems... (almost stock honda size if you please) side by side from the header (or behind the flexpipe) all the way to the back of the car in the stock location... i dont kow how much clearance you would have for the cat but i would assume you could stagger them to make em fit better... screw resinators... i dunno bout emissions tho... but ground clearance is the same... i live in IL so big potholes happen too

or

you could keep all the stock/aftermarket piping location but instead of the pipe going to the muffler input, from there run it to the middle of the car, face it to point to the rear, then do a wide angle split-T to 2 mufflers mounted sideways... ill have to look at my car for fitment b4 i can really suggest this way... itll almost look cool if done right... specially if its good lookin mufflers...
