Hi,

a while ago i found really bad damaged plugs, all four of them. Electrodes melted and all fouled up. I was even surprised the car still drove with them and didn't have any obvious smoke out the exhaust.

Anyways, i fixed all the boost leaks, 7-8 of them. Replaced all the plugs.

Here are the problems i'm still having:

1. Stumbles on low boost
2. Fouls plugs on idle (look like carbon)
3. Compression: 130 125 123 125

Haven't done leak-down test yet.

My question is, what is the most likeliest damage from melted plugs? Valves?

Thank you

Do you have a wide band, or any way to check your Air to Fuel Ratio?
I have a hunch it has something to do with that...

Yes, i have an AEM wideband. It seems to foul up the plugs even when i run a 14.7 afr

Hmmm, I would tell you to do a leak down test but I don't see that being the problem seeing as all 4 of the plugs were fried...
Try it anyway just in case.

Maybe it's the ignition it's self?

Yeah, i will be trying to go and find a leak down kit sometime soon probably.

As far as ignition itself, i thought about that too. I know that i get spark, and i got some new wires i could try. But other than that, is there a way to troubleshoot the rest of the ignition?

Also, do you think i should be fine with that low of compression, its barely above service limit? I was thinking maybe thats it, why it fouls up?

Definetly appreciate all the suggestions

If the compression is very low then you could be oil fouling the plugs. It can look like carbon when it does that if it doesn't look wet/oily. It maybe that the oil rings are toast.

I redid my compression while holding the gas to the floor this time and came up with 150's across the board. So i think that the rings might be good.

Someone has suggested me that it could be bad valve seals, why it keeps fouling plugs. Is there a way to test for sure if it really are valve seals?

I tried searching and didn't find anything.

I'm using bpr6es's.

I will have to double check for smoke when starting up. Don't see anything obvious but who knows.

However, last time i did a boost leak check, it did have white smoke after start up. Also, when i run a boost leak check i get some air coming out of the breather hole in the valve cover.

That does happen I don't remember why but it does. It might just be the valve stem seals but usually the smoke on start up and long idles when warm is a pretty clear cut sign. Was that the first time the car has done that to your spark plugs? Also is all your temperature gauges readying normal?

Long idles seem fine. Temperature also reads fine. I believe that car has been doing it for a while but i just started to trying to plug tune it recently.

So is there a more definitive way to find out if the seals are bad or not? Or pretty much just by signs and symptoms.

One more question, just to be sure, are valve seals same thing as valve stem seals?
