CV Boot: Universal vs Application Specific

Need to replace right outer CV boot (FWD). OEM boot kit from dealer is almost $80 . Autozone has universal kits from around $20-25. Anyone have any experience with regards to fit, quality, etc of the universal ones?

I know it's easier to replace the whole axle but there is no joint damage as far as I can tell and I would like to retain the original axle. Mainly because the aftermarket/remanufactured axles (even Raxles from what I read) seem to have the smaller, weaker shafts.

My inner boot cover that I ordered seemed stronger that that one you have. It was really tough and looked thicker.

One final comment.

Don't waste your time with a one-size-fits-all CV boot. They're just too thin and flimsy.

Found a model specific one at Carquest. Made of VERY THICK neoprene rubber. This thing seems tougher than the oem one. Fits perfectly. P/n 85-1102 (FWD), manufactured by NEAPCO.
