CV joint is part of your axle(new axle) dont forget about ball joints!

If it only started making the noise after you rotated the tires, then it would stand to reason that the wheels are falling off.

If the C/V joint is making the noise, then it's probably too late for a boot. You should just put a new/reman axle shaft in the car.

you know where i can buy all that i need?

what do you mean the wheels are falling off ? not tight enough?

You need to take care of this immediately I had the same symptoms on my car but I chose to ignore it for a bit LOL (not smart). Anyhow earlier this week as I was turning a corner I heard a big snap crack and pop. I rush outside my car and notice the lower ball joint separated and the cv axle was F**ked. Needless to say I spent my whole thanksgiving vacation fixing something I should have taken care of earlier.

Anyway to answer you question I bought mine at Autozone for 120ish however this included an upfront $60 core charge. So in reality if your getting a reman your looking at about 60-70ish I'd say.

how hard is it to take off the whole axle? LOL thats what im pretty mad about having to do

Everything was easy for me except it was a PITA to get the axle out of my transmission because it appeared extremely rusted and looked like the orginal factory cv axle LOL.

However I use this video and the manual to help me out:

video 1 (how to change/replace CV axle) :

video 2 (How to change just CV boot)

You noticed a noise after you rotated your tires... Doesn't mean it just happened. Now you are aware of a change and just noticed it. funny, but very true. :ohdamn:

Have you rechecked the lugs? Reassure wheels installed correctly.

A ripped CV joint may have been that way and has flung grease out of the CV joint and has been taking in water and or moisture. It may be corroded/rusted and there for not free moving.
It doesn't mean you have to replace. May need to be disassembled ,cleaned and checked for damage then greased and reassembled.

very possible for a balljoint to be bad too.

the guy up there said i need ball joints also did you change that?

Lol I had to because my lower ball joint snapped off the control arm. I mean really its a maintenance thing and after learning my lesson and paying an expensive towing bill to my house I would. The one thing you don't want is to have these joints fail on you while your on the highway doing like 80 or something because you would be in for a world of trouble.

If your in a money bind you can check to see if there's any grease in the joints and replace just the really bad ones. If not then replace away.

Same thing that happened to me. Heard some cracking, thought it was just something that needed worked in.
Was making a left turn and boom. Thought got a flat tire or something. Pulled into a parking lot. Wheel looked like I had hellaflush vip going on.
Had to get a flat bed tow truck and battle the driver so he wouldnt #### up my fenders being that our cars are so low.
Ball joint ended up ripping my cv axel boot as well. So I had to buy both a new cv joint and a new axel.
To add to that, my axel WOULDNT come out of my hub bearing so I had to get a brand new one after two days of trying to get it out. Ended up trying to press it out with a 20 ton press and it wouldnt budge.
Stupid ball joint turned into a new cv axel, new ball joint, new hub bearing, tow fees, and my car was done for a week. (The story actually gets better but Ill save you guys the trouble)
Dont make this mistake....
And truthfully, I was lucky I wasnt going 80 miles an hour. Thank god.

Check the tie rod ends as well, had a similar noise and while trying to leave a gas station after filling up, my passenger side tire flipped outwards towards my fender. Had to rig it up with some vice grips to limp home 10 blocks and replace it.

Just lucky it didnt happen on the interstate i had just gotten off of.

Haha the same thing happen with my tow truck driver LOL but I told him dont bring a flat bed because my tire was lodged into the wheel wheel and that would cause it to drag on the flatbed. Needless to say the idiot brought it anyway and admitted that he should have brought a wheel lift (ps for our cars I always tell them to bring me a wheel lift much easier on the car and no messing up on the bumper).

I had the same problem with the hub bearing as wheel but heres the trick I used:

1)I drilled a big ass hole into the axle (at the end) to weaken the innerpart for phase 2

2) Next I took a dremel tool and cut around the mushroomed metal on the nut (me and my friends mushroomed out the axle onto the nut and wheel hub LOL)

3) Then I took my ball joint separator and jammed it between the hub and the stuck axle nut.

4) Finally after it was good and lodge between it, I took my impact wrench and went to town on the axle. Then the metal begin heating up loosened both the bolt and axle and Voila it shake it enough that everything came out like butter including the axle

Well I just tested it out and I went in reverse and in a circle and nothing no noise at all , can it be the tie rod ? I mean the left sounds more then the right

^^Need flat bed to tow awd. Fwd doesnt matter either way.
I even drilled into my cv shaft and that didnt work LOL. What a joke. Make sure you antisieze the crap out of your new shaft if you get one.

Ahhh I see didn't even think about that...haha forget to take note of your profile too LOL..

That video ^^^ is hardly represesentative of a worn out DSM ball joint. It wont look like that, and it's probably going to be a lot harder to tell it's bad. Sometimes the dealer can't even tell. I once had to make a video to show the dealer what a worn out ball joint looks like, after they called two bad ones "fine".
<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0fFlvxU_jyI?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0fFlvxU_jyI?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>

I'm not sure what happened to the sound, but when I demonstrate the play in the second ball joint, there's a good view of where to pry.

If you have a repetitive crunch crunch crunch when you go around turns, and it's frequency increases with the speed of the car, then it sounds to me like you have a bad C/V joint.

Use the method I showed in my video anyways just to make sure you don't need ball joints too. The test must be performed with the car lifted by the body, and the wheels hanging freely.
