i have a 92 tsi awd. I am trying to replace the front left outer cv boot. I have it all apart but how do i get the boot off? the axel is still on the car because i don't want to take it off. can i take it apart where the boot is?

It's been a while since I did one of these, but I believe that you have to pull the axle and remove the inner roller bearing and slide the boots off the axle from that end. While you are at it, might as well as replace both boots. Might want to take a look at www.vfaq.com/mods/CVboots.html for a detailed procedure for doing this.

Its been awhile for me too but I remember just cutting the old boot off and then give the outter cv housing 2 good whacks and it came off. All that with the axle still in the tranny. Ensure to replace the c-clip and depending on how long your boot has been torn, thoroughly clean the cv housing before repacking it.
