So i was driving my car about 3 days ago, when all of a suddend i felt the need to go full throttle, and it cut me off around 4000 rpms/: i cant seem to find the problem, i have no boost leaks, car has stock turbo at 15 psi. Any suggestions or has this happened to anyone before?
 
Its going to get tuned bro. Im just putting the fuel pump first later ill put the injectors. Do you think ill need the afpr?


What fuel pump did you get? Some people can get away with a 190 pump with the stock FPR. A 255 will require an AFPR.

How are you going to tune it?
 
With the bigger pump you should run an AFPR. Its something I need to put on this new one but do I spend money on the builder or the new car....can't do both so I'm gonna finish my build and then move on to the dd but it sure is nice to have the "boost" under my seat again.
 
Thanks for chiming in. I never had these issues with my 90, which I am still trying to get together on a 6 day work week for this whole year. I ran across this car in a trade for a truck so I jumped on it. It turns out to be a 98 Talon not a 97 so I like the first year last year thing! Now just having time to try and figure out the things on the new car since it is a driver. It hits fuel cut HARD at 15 lbs of boost (stock). And a darn clackity sound under the VC so I'm gonna pull it this weekend when I'm not working on the 90 and see if I can visually see anything loose. Any other advice on hitting that brickwall deal I would love to hear about to try and solve it. It has one new coil I can see and the power transistor is not bolted down. When it runs good she goes right up to 7000 but that is rare as most of the time it hits fuel cut and SLAM. From the sound of the exhaust it might have some cams in it but the PO didn't know a thing about the car so its a game for me to figure it all out. Appreciate it Chump!!!!
Bolt down the PT and re-wire the fuel pump (with thicker wire, its not getting enough power) there are many tutorials for this so you should have no problem figuring it out. The stock fueling system is good for about 16psi so you shouldn't be hitting fuel cut just yet. Under the VC is probably the infamous lifter tick. Worse when cold and with thick oil. Clicks faster with RPM. A google search will lead you to all the solutions you need for that one haha very common problem. Most cars have the revised lifters now since DSMs have been passed around so much so its not so common anymore though it still happens.

Most people can get away with a stock FPR with the 190. Some even have been fine on the 255 though it is HIGHLY recommended to run an AFPR for anything bigger than the 190. Its just an extra precaution to take for the 190. Some do it some don't both are fine. If you plan on going bigger in the future then go ahead and get one. The aeromotive and fuel lab ones are very popular options. Technically a 190 will over run the stock FPR but not enough to really do anything or make a difference. Its right on the line there before you really should run one. Everyone should re-wire their pump though. One look at the factory wire and you'll understand why.

Thanks for the help! I have a rewire kit at home, basically a amplifier wiring kit and a 30 amp relay so I can slap that on very easy and see how things go. GstBryan19, my friend here is a very knowledgeable person so you can trust his advice, I know I do. Thanks Chump!!! :thumb: Marty

Haha thanks for the kind words always glad to help out. Sounds good on that kit too. For fun if you want measure how much voltage is getting to the pump before and after re-wiring. I got a 320 aem. And street tune for now. I have a 7 bold and im looking for a 6 bolt, you know how it goes.

With a 320 LPH fuel pump you WILL need an AFPR or you will overrun and be extremely rich. IMO, that pump is WAY overkill for a "street tune". You don't need all that. an application specific walbro will work, be easier to install and same you a few bucks.

You didn't answer the question either. You are going to tune it for the street, but HOW? What tools(software, sensors, gauges) are you going to use?

Im not going to beat on it yet. I just need it to go to mexico( 4 hours) for a paint job, and a local import tuner is going to tune it.
 
You need to be tuned on the fuel you will be running. Mexico's fuel can be different in some ways. Also the climate could possibly affect it depending on where you are going. What are your plans/power goals for the car so we can help you pick out the proper supporting mods and not going to much overkill and wasting your money.

I never pump gas in mexico ive heard bad rumors but, my goal is 400-450 and soon i want to run e85. Any suggestions?
