Custom tubular K-member

always for 1Gs never for 2Gs. Goldang it. It's a neat idea. Love it actually but of course for a 1G not a 2G. I would love to see the same thing for a 2G. It should have hit me right off the bat when i was looking at the control arms. If it was made for a 2G I would buy one right off the bat!

Well we are gonna try to get a 2g, and some other random cars. LIke my other good friend has a fully built scion tc with a gt3076. He has a ghetto log manifold on there. Well soon enough hes gonna have a equal length tubular manifold and custom intake manifold. Its just another project for my friend who made the k-member. My car also is getting a gt42 and we are gonna design a sheet metal intake manifold. Im gonna get to the track soon. I have about 900 on the new redone 2.4. Im swaping out the fp2 cams (if anyone wants some low low mileage fp2 cams) and going fp3s. I need to put some kind of suspension in the back and i definatly need atleast drag radials, but i figured i would go and get some fun passes spinning LOL. Im picking up my fluidampr friday, and hopefully the new cams.

The k-member is no joke. I know it dosnt look like much, but its not a throw together job. It it really solid, the tubing used is nowhere close to paper thin, nor is it as heavy as the stock k-member.

Red 2g Talon bought some drilled/slotted rotors. One broke in 2 pieces, one of the pieces got caught in the after market wheels and locked up the tire. Talon lost control and luckily sled into a corn field.

I guess luckily... The car wasn't recognizable to a DSM!. I was surprised he walked away with only a scratch.

BTW, it slid into a corn field upside down...the vehicle flipped

Plus, I wasn't doubting the quality... But its just very lightly built... not talking about the quality of the metal or welds. Just not much support for all angles. I've just had alot of problems in the past with suspension, I'm really weary.

But, from looking at the Truck frame... I'd love to get my hands on someone like this to build myself a nice front and rear bumper and rock sliders for my WJ....

Haggard does some pretty damn good work. I've seen his frame at Carlisle there. They do a LOT of tubing work for many vehicles. I follow their threads on dropndrag.com, and am pretty impressed with the creativity and skill. I'll admit I, like the others wouldn't mind seeing an extra brace or at least something to add some triangulation to transfer stress. I'd rather overbuild it and gain 2 pounds then have to wonder.

Very true. Just remember its the first one, pictures where just used to show what was made. We are gonna probably add one brace on each side. From the end of the control arm mount of to the top main bar. on each side. Its really not gonna gain any weight. But matts a good friend of mine. He is a very talented person.

Thats cool, ya gotta start somewhere. I've seen some of his work in person, mostly in pics. He has a crazy mind and a lot of attention to detail. I'd love to get a chance to be in a shop with people like that.
Keep on draggin

Well I tried to post in the fourm but it would not let me I guess because I am still a newbee. I just wanted to caution 1fastlaser about the use of mild steel as a base platform for a k member. I have a degree in engineering and am a registered engineer in SC so I am a newbee to DSM's but not to engineering. Mild steel has a value of 36ksi and on 1.5" tubeing with .200" wall that equates into a radial section of 1.125" and an elasticity of 3.36 that is going to = way too much deflection. I would not waste my time on a mild steel version of this just because of the safety factor and go with a 52ksi chromolly version with proper bracing to handle lateral loading and deflection. The best of luck in the fabrication and most of all do lots of testing. Also the truck frame is unreal I need one of those.

I understand the numbers, but real life data is also important. I have about 300 miles on it, 5 passes and typical street driving. Acouple massive bumped on the highway, speed bumps, and hard turning. Everything is still in check.

Well send it to me ( i will pay shipping) and i can try it out for you, I have the don polk subframe and We could compare the two.

This is my best friend punisching his gsx

We would be able to provide a different betwen the two.

2000 miles on it and still good to go. Besides the point i have no traction what so ever on 29psi. Acouple of real hard launches. We are incorporating driveshaft loops also now. I wanna get to the track and get some slips but i need atleast drag radials before i go.

For mild steel 550, chromolly 850. driveshaft loop is 50 extra on each as some people might not see a need for it

Lifetime warrentee, its really durable. I drive my car often and have had no issues, more then a dozen sideways hard launchs

i would also like to know if there is one for a 2g.
price?
waranty?
and can you make direct replacement control arms?

We have yet to make one for a 2g, we dont have anybody with one. We acually have a buddy of mines car down there (alex from dogboxracing.com) I got him hooked up, and he got some custom stuff done for his new evo race car. 03 cobra rear mounted in with a custom tubular rear mount all tied into the cage and the paracute mount. He might be making a k member for that also. Im still running it, 0 issues. I have about 4k on it now
