Did some searching but didn't see much on the comparison....should i just go to a muffler shop and have them make me a full 3 inch exhaust and then get an apex'i tip....or go with the full apex'i n1 system.

Also do i need to get a downpipe or can a muffler shop fabricate that too?

One disadvantage is that if you go to a muffler shop they will usually use pipe that will rust and it will be pressbent. Yes they can make downpipes pretty easy, but they too will be pressbent. I have a mandrel bent dp and the rest of the exhaust is pressbent and I have been extremely happy.

Well whichever one is cheapest to make. As long as the custom made one is mandrel bent then i would say go with that. If it's not then go with the Full Apexi. Most shops that can mandrel bend 3inch should be able to hook you up with a down pipe. Either way the key is.......

Whichever is cheapest as long as it's mandrel bent.:thumb:

Just get a full 3" turbo-back from one of the sponsors, and save yourself from upgrading later. Most exhaust shops don't even mandrel bend pipes, and I have never heard of one making a downpipe. The Apexi is not a true 3" exhaust, just so you know.

Get a custom madrel 3" exhaust, and then have the shop angle the end of the pipe so that when you get a n-1 muffler, it will look just like the apex.

Plus you won't have any neckdown's except at the 0/2 housing.

ok so i cut mine open, so now what should i do? take it back to apexi and ask them to replace it, say it was an accident?JK

have you physically cut open an n1 muffler as evidence?

My old N/T talon had a "custom" exhaust with a mufler and it was loud as hell, didnt do too much either AND it was mandral bent

My GSX has a full Apexi N1, its not obnoxiously loud, it definatley works and its light, the Apexi engineers spent lots o time and money to figure out the best and easiest way of gettin the exaust out... and I beleive they did a good job

Id go with the professional N1 setup and save yourself the headache of dealing with what could end up being a crappy "custom" job ;)

so make sure it's mandrel bent...if going with one from a sponser ..who would you suggest?

can i get a full turbo back system for around 500?

Also has anyone used the pacesetter downpipe?

Swing Lo,
I did in the post before but then you reccomended the Apexi muffler with 3" piping so I reiterated that it's not actually full 3" inside the muffler.

No, I have not. I have seen the pictures of a cut open muffler and it's quite obvious.

I installed an Rnr 3" Turboback with O2 eliminator down-pipe a while back. It was around $700.00 but if you just get the regular downpipe and not the o2 eliminator it's cheaper. It performed as expected, and didn't break the bank.

A bro, just find a shop that madrel bends, and get a turbo back exhaust.
Apex-i n-1 muffler's have different size mufflers. I do belive that apex makes a universal that is 110mm, which is at the tip, but it can't neckdown that much. It's a straight through design, so who cares.

A custom true mandrel bent exhaust is just as good as any other to a certain extent. Pick the muffler of your choice, and slap it on there with your piping and be done with it.

Your NT example is ridiculous because turbo exhaust gains have absolutely nothing to do with NT power gains. It has been stated many times that the N1 is not a true 3" exhaust. That said, the N1 will work for most people because they won't make enough power to need a true 3" exhaust.

i stated my example not because of the power gains idea but because i had hell with it... the supporting brackets were crap, it was louder than hell and it annoyed me.... and i had a hell of a time getting the stuff done right

when i got the turbo and simply bought an Apexi everything worked well, nice, it is not obnoxious and i just had a good experience with their product... thats all im sayin man

everyone can do what they want... i was just stating my opinion on the matter and my personal experience with "custom" exhaust vs the Apexi

I was just happy with Apexi and it made my life a lot easier, and if you read his post he is lookin for advice on whether the 3" piping would work... answer is yes sure if its done right, but if its not he's gonna have hell ;)

you had trouble with your custom set-up because the guy's you were dealing with didn't take the time to do it right. Their are poeple that can make a custom mandrel exhaust that wouldn't give you problem's. You can't speak for the rest of the exhaust builders everywhere because your custom set-up was crap. Obviously apex will fit perfect and sound good because they make thousands on a assembly line. And take that resonator that they put in the pipe off, and the wonderful sound will not sound like that anymore.

Why would the apex or any other exhaust except for open downpipe be obnoxious? A turbo car's note is entitely different from a n/a.

Ok then,

This is my last post on this thread... something else to consider is haveing proper back pressure, the apexi has been designed with that in mind as well ;)

in my opinion the 3" custom exhaust would work just as well as the apexi but just make sure the place where you are getting it done has a good rep

the apexi is a big name brand that you might end up paying more for, but my personal experience with the Apexi has been very good, in fact all my parts that are made by Apexi have worked very very well, installed easilly and they all came with good instructions, not to mention warranty

One more thing... Im the only turbo DSM in my town with full Apexi exhaust, all my friends have custom or other exhaust and they all want to get the Apexi also because they say mine sounds better, works better and is easier to deal with ;)

In any case... Im just letting you know that getting a custom exhaust made can be a pain if the person doing it isnt reputable, so just do your research and its your car man, get what you want

have fun

so in the way of tips...since the apex'i necks down

what tip is a full 3in all the way?

do i need a full 3 inch all the way through or will i be ok with just the 2.5?

Get whatever you want man, if it is to small in the future you can always sell it and upgrade. You should set a goal for Horsepower or E.T in the 1/4 and we can tell you what will work.
