Looking to purchase a custom-made 3" turbo back exhaust from a local muffler shop. I was looking into brand names and realized that they are very loud and attract unwanted attention. Plus i'm trying for more of a sleeper look (stock style muffler).

How bad will this hurt performance? What should I ask for when making the exhaust? SS over Steel? Bends? Type of bends? etc...

If I get a 3" turbo-back with high-flow cat and a 2-tip muffler with 3" inlet, would this hurt performance a lot? My goal with the car is to be able to reach low-mid 11's on the 1/4".

i've done some searching, but no one has really mentioned limitations of horsepower being made to prevent someone from a certain goal.

quick question... I'm considering on having an exhaust shop build me a cat-back, where would one go to find different mufflers? I would love to find a JIC Magic bullet muffler that I had on my Evo.

I saw some of the Vibrant mufflers 1043 and 1047 but their tips stick out too much. Do you know any other good mufflers with dual tips (beveled) that don't stick out?

I have a muffler shop 3" turbo back, with a magnaflow high flow, and an apexi n1 muffler. The comment i hear the most when i take people for rides (besides o sh1t) is "man this thing is quiet". When i went from a straight 3" pipe, with no muffler, or cat, to just adding the muffler, the difference was amazing.

I'm going to agree with Donnie here. That is what is on my car and is real quiet on idle and is a little grumbly on acceleration. no fart can sounds despite the can look!

3" mandrel bend pipe, and the brand I would look into for a muffler would be magnaflow. They are quality, quiet, and sound great. If you're really that worried about performance at the track you can have a cutout welded in and use it for those track days.

Do you think its worth taking my car to the shop to have it done or do it myself? I see that Vibrant makes various bends and straight pipe in different lengths. I could just clamp them together. Only thing I would need is to weld the hangers I guess.

Any difference between clamping and welding the pipes/resonators?

Also, the shops around me are quoting 500+ for just labor, not including parts. I can't see it being that hard other than welding hangers. I could just buy a 1' long straight SS tube to connect the two resonators together, and then just take one straight end to the cat with a coupler and the other end to the muffler. I'm not sure how many bends there are for a FWD, but they make 15, 45, and 60 deg bends.

I have my exhaust made in 3 pieces.
-Down pipe (w/ flex section)
-Cat / test pipe
-Cat-back (w/ muffler)

So I use 2 exhaust band clamps and it slip fits. I like it.
Don't just clamp it all together with a ton of clamps.

And there's more work than you think to get it to fit correctly.

Parts, and labor for just my 3" turbo back pipe was $110. It was then $30 to weld on my muffler, and $150 parts, and labor for the magnaflow high flow cat.

Bro I have the GSX exhaust straight pipe on my 97 GST spyder. It sits sooooo low but works like a pro. 3 inch in to 7 inch out LOL. Tried to go 5 inch out but it looked small and dumb so we put a coffee can at the end which looked funny so I kept it. You hear my turbo spool soooo nicely.

I can't decide what I want to do with the exhaust. My hardest part is finding a muffler that has dual tip and doesn't stick out like the Vibrant #1043 or #1047.

So far I've decided on going with the RRE short downpipe with high-flow cat. I can't decide what to get for muffler.

my car is pretty damn quite, im running full 3'' turbo back with test pipe and a magnaflow muffler!
I was very surprised when i first started her up with the new exhaust setup!!

I have the same setup, with pretty much the same reaction. My magnaflow is practically a straight pipe. It has a slight perforated 'S' bend in it. 3" in and 3" out. I figured it was going to be loud. It's just right.
Keep in mind the turbo actually eliminates alot of the combustion noise. that's why they market 'turbo' mufflers because they don't have to "muffle" as much. Less backpressure too.. or so I read at least.

Another thing you could look into would be using an electric cutout right before the muffler like this one:

There are also mufflers out there that have one inlet and two outlets. One outlet is quiet because it wraps around inside the mufler, and the other is straight through and you can electrically switch between which one you want the exhaust to go through from inside the car.
