what would a good price be for someone to bend a custom exhaust for my 95 tsi awd?

im assuming the muffler i choose will be 50 bucks or so... but how much time, labor, and parts cost is it going to be?

just looking for a 3 inch replacement for the stock piping

It depends. Call an exhaust shop with the specs your looking for (2.5 or 3") and ask for a quote

$50 for a muffler? 3 inch.. unless its from ebay, good luck!

Custom Exhaust, you could probably get any muffler shop to fab something up for around $80.

ok so 80 for the custom fab... and there are plenty of decent mufflers for 50 bucks... thrush welded (exact copy of flowmaster 40) are only like 40 bucks... i have seen many places that have a straight through dual tip stainless muffler for around that price... lets be honest.... all you guys with expesive systems are baisically just running 3 inch mandrel bent straight pipe... the can style mufflers act as nothing but a resonator to muffle the sound to a legal level... the only real back pressure is within the cat... and thats hardly any... the only reason your systems are so expensive is because of the brand name... and the fact that some are stainless steel... im not saying that they are junk but i am saying you can get the same sound and performance for a fraction of the price...

Uhh... ok. So why are you posting this question? Sounds like you have it figured out. :)

Most shops will run a cheap aluminium. not stainless steel.

...but since you got it figured out now, good luck!

the question i asked was about an estimated price for a muffler shop to "fab" something custom... then i was asked what kind of muffler i can get for 50 dollars... i answered... and my question wsas answered...

i understand this... the only thing the stainless is doing is eliminating rust... correct me if im wrong anytime

Put a chambered muffler on a turbo car of any type and you'll kill performance....

$80 for fab work? Maybe if you just want the muffler installed.... Some shops might be cheap but what kind of quality are you getting? Crush bent pipes just dont flow like mandrel bends. In the end a crush bent 3" system will flow more closely to a 2.5" or 2.75" at best depending on the number of bends.

Cheap
Fast
Good (ie:Quality)

Choose any two....

ok my choice is cheap and quality... what do i get? i planned on the straight through btw... just saying there are plenty of good mufflers that are cheap...

Get a kit and hang it yourself. Its not that hard. Also it will save you a lot in labor. If you decide to go this route you have two options.

1. Cheap: Knockoff Brand kit from ebay. $200 - $250 + shipping.

2. The right way: Pick a reputable exhaust manufacturer. $450 - $1000

Personally I adore Magnaflow. I got a full kit all the way from the header for around $500 + $50 shipping. Hung it myself with a few wrenches, jack, jack stands, etc. Just don't forget to check those crappy rubber hangers for the exhaust piping. They could be worn or just rotted away depending on what king of weather it has seen.

Or you could just fab it up yourself. I'm doing mine with 3 inch from the turbo-back. Total cost is about 130 right now. I got 3 stainless 90 degree mandrel bends from acestainless for 75 bucks, and an 8ft piece of 3 inch galvanized pipe from meineke for 20 bucks. Throw in the random cost of o2 bung, vband flanges, etc and it comes out to around 130. Might be more for you if you don't know how to weld though. I also am just going to use the can style muffler that came on the car when I bought it though. So maybe 200 total for you. And thats real 3 inch from the turbo all the way back.

Aluminized mild steel. Not aluminum, although you can make exhausts out of aluminum, it is much more expensive than mild.

This is painful to read.

Okay, so $80 for the custom fab. and There are plenty of decent mufflers for 50 bucks.

For future reference, only one period is necessary when attempting to end a sentence. The letter "i," when used as a word referring to ones self is always capitalized. The first word of every sentence is capitalized.

As far as your actual post is concerned, nobody can really tell you what a shop will charge. You can get a guess maybe, but the only accurate way is to pick up a telephone and call a local shop.

i would say custom exhaust is fine although if it was me i would have got a stainless 8' piece. i didn't know we a had a dsm exhaust and english teacher onhand here

In point of fact, I'm neither. I just have a high school education and I believe that a man is only as good as the way he presents himself to others. Therefor I'm not careless in the way I type, or speak.
