Okay, I'm turboing my car and I was wondering if I could just use the turbo from like a gsx or gst and then get a manifold with that flange and do they make a dp that would go from the turbo and then to fit my exhaust is using a used gsx or gst turbo out of the question. I'm trying to turbo my car but I'm on a bit of a budget, any ideas to help guys?

You might be able to use the turbo, but I'm pretty sure you cant use the manifold. the 420a manifold has a different bolt pattern then the 4G63. As for a downpipe, your probably going to have to have one custom made, check with exhaust shops or any shop that bends pipe.

I think buying a kit is a good way to go if your not going for crazy numbers, some people dont like kits though, you could piece together your own kit, but i doubt youll be able to use many, if any, GST or GSX parts.

I know most parts wont work, pretty much just gst exhaust, LOL but I was just talking the turbo not the manifold, they got ones on ebay the person will make whatever flange you want for whatever turbo and it's a 420a manifold, but I'll probbally just end up going hahn or star kit, I don't know which is better haven't really looked into buying a kit. I'm sure there's parts you still need after the kit.

The kits are pretty comrehensive. I can't think of anything you would need to buy to supplement what they already give you.

I think you'll be much happier piecing together your own kit though. The Street Source (thestreetsource.net) has the best manifolds I have seen so far. They're pricey, but worth it in my opinion. Mike Hart, the guy that handles all of the sales and whatnot, is a great guy to work with, and he can arrange to have any flange you want put on their manifold.

I wouldn't recommend the T25 though. It's not a bad turbo, but if you're on a budget, look around for a 14B in good condition. It's a litte more versatile, and a much more popular choice.

Like 420a16G said, unless you get a kit, you'll pretty much be stuck going the custom route with the downpipe. The Street Source can actually put one of those together for you too - I know a few people here have one from them (XMasta19?). It'd probably be easier to just get one at a local muffler shop though. Make sure they either have a mandrel bender, or pre-bent sections of piping for flow reasons.

If you buy your own piping and flanges and piece the thing together, you can also get the shop to weld it together for you. I can't imagine them charging more than $50 or so to do that.

yup yup...I got my turbo, manifold, downpipe, and other misc shiznit from Mike at thestreetsource. I think his downpipes come in sections now and u have to get them welded together to make sure it all fits just right I guess. As said, he's a great guy to work with, haven't had any problems with him at all over the last year or so :thumb:

Wow, thanks guys for all the help, I'm definately doing this route I see they've got the kits, turbo/manifold/DP my only question is there a place that comes with piping kits, how do I do that, I know where I can get a oil return line kit, but where for piping? Also any good intercooler set ups and then I need a boost controller, fuel pump and anything else?

You won't need a boost controller, you'll probably even want to mod the wastegate some with the turbo that mike sends you. plenty of places on ebay have oil line kits, lowes have every fitting u can think of really, and I know mike can also get oil line stuff too. As for the ic piping, I just got a universal kit on ebay with piping, couplers, and clamps. http://www.johnnyracecar.com/ for fmic, and http://www.atpturbo.com/ for any other misc couplers, clamps, ect u might want.

Is there anywhere to get like a 2g specific pipe kit or something, with all the piping you need, also do they make like turbo ready oil pans with the hole already there so I wouldn't have to drill one? Which size intercooler to fit in my car too

Whoa... too many questions.

Seeing as how our cars don't have a turbo from the factory, you'll be hard pressed to find a piping kit made specifically for them. Do what XMasta did and get a universal kit from eBay - you can't go wrong with one of those.

You're also pretty much out of luck as far as the oil pan goes too, unless you can find another 420A-T who's selling theirs.

It isn't difficult to do though. Figure out where you want the hole, then drill a small pilot hole. Expand it to the proper diameter with a step drill bit.

You can mount the return fitting several different ways if you don't want to or can't get it welded. Earl's makes an aluminum fitting specifically for this that bolts on the interior of the pan with a nylon washer to prevent leakage. Some JBWeld around the exterior wouldn't be a bad idea either.

You can also drill two small holes to either side of the main return hole and mount another flange (just like the one on the turbo) directly to the oil pan. Be sure to use a gasket and to tighten that flange down tight!

I can't really answer your intercooler question without knowing your goals for the car. By default though, knowing you're on a budget, look into one of the mid-size Johnny Race Car (JRC) intercoolers.

Do you even know what turbo you're going with or already have? That kinda determines other factors and variables that you'll be considering. You should probably start a new thread and get one question knocked out at a time, or pm one of us for the answers you seek :thumb:

Definitely just start a new thread. You seem serious enough about this project. You just have to back up the turbo talk with pics Lol, so we know we're not providing this information for useless reasons...

Also, just search like a mad man..you have a ? hit the search button. If you can't find the answer, hit it again, and use a few different key words. If you make a valliant(sp?) effort to search and still couldn't find the answer we will be more than happy to help. Normally we will help no matter what, but believe me, we(and you once you are turbo'd and full of knowledge) get tired of answering the same questions over and over. Oh and I wasn't referring to this thread as a reason to search. There aren't many threads about piping for our turbo kits out there. :thumb:
