Crankwalk

Hi guys looking to find the width of the big ends on the 7 bolt crank aftermarket rods or another way what a /market rod manufacturer makes the widest rod. Im trying to close up the side clearances as much as possible to keep crank walk in check. Any ideas.

Focus on the thrust bearing for holding the crank in proper placement.

The rod clearances have nothing to do with crankwalk. The center main bearing houses the integrated thrust washers in 90-97 engines. It doesn’t even oil a rod like mains 1,2,4,5.


Make sure your endplay is in spec, and that the clutch is adjusted properly to help avoid crankwalk.

Hi Mello is there thicker than normal thrust bearings .

I am not aware of any extra thick thrust bearings. Why do you think you need this? What does "keep crank walk in check" mean?

dont start the engine with the clutch in is a good starting point. it puts pressure on the crank thrust while there is no oil pressure and potentially very little residual oil too. Keep pressure plates as light as possible - use twin plate rather than a heavy spring if you are making sufficient torque. I would be surprised if with modern oils, especially the group 4 base oil synthetics, that you'd ever see an issue with crankwalk.
