I know there are a bunch of post about this. But i jus have two questions.

So the parking brake is currently not working in my 1g 5sp.

I park the car on a hill, in gear, and it will roll back slightly, Lil by Lil. Is this crank walk? And does crankwalk = engine rebuild?

Sounds like it could be the clutch slipping? Crank Walk involves the clutch pressure plate pushing against the thrust bearing causing abnormal wear. In my opinion your car inching back on a hill would be a worn clutch. Does it slip at all?

parking brake is not related to crankwalk.

Try parking facing down hill... see if it slips. Brake-shoe-mechanisms have efficiencies that are different fwd/bkwd. The Brake handbook by Fred Puhn can help explain.

Your parking brake is a system: lever, balance-bar, cables, caliper/(or shoes), linings, rotors.

I had a brand-new Mustang GT that would not hold the car from rolling parked up-hill. Stealer never fixed... several warranty fixes. I had to park facing down hill.

I will try faceing downhill. Sorry for not being specific. By e-brake not working in mean its not hooked up or in gauged at all.

By leaving the car in gear i jus assumed it would stay put.

Instead it would clink backwards. Roll stop roll stop roll stop. Parked on a hill facing up hill.

Geesh Guys.... he said the parking brake is not working.

It is is not the clutch slipping either.

It is the angle of the hill plus the weight of the car rotating the engine thu the compression stroke.

Could be a weak engine...

Could be just a steep hill

Could be it was in first gear...

A compression test and leak down test will help you know what your engines health is.

It has happened to me with several vehicles, Just low compression engines, parked in first or reverse, and they just chug over a time or two before they settle into place.

Look in the tech sub forum. I have not made one, but if there is one, thats where it should be.

If not, check youTube

..
what? no.

Is there really this much misinformation about the whole crankwalk subject out there? If your pressure plate (only equiped on manual transmission vehicles) pushes against the thrust bearing, you have some serious issues.

If it was a slipping clutch, when parked on a hill in gear without the emergency brake engaged, he also would not be able to drive under any power. It would slip constantly and be undriveable. Been there on a parts car. Hilarious.

I'm with bogus; weak compression for whatever reason it might be. I wonder what the limit is in terms of weight vs incline.. hm

Had similar issue with a perfectly running/driveable truck once. Had it hooked to a trailer with a water tank. Parked it on a slight incline and started filling the tank. Went inside to eat. Came out about half an hour later and the truck has rolled about 50 feet down the incline. Turns out i left it in third instead of first.

try leaving it in reverse, might hold better. but its the compression of the engine that locks the transmission when its in gear. i got no park brake in my 2g dd but got other issues i need to fix before that.

Sounds like you need to adjust your rear brakes I don't remember if its hydraulic actuated or cable if its cable with drum inside disc u just need to adjust it when u pull your ebrake does it feel hard or easy.
