I know that this topic has been discussed many times but I need to get some things straight. I know that crankwalks mostly occur in 95-96 engines with around 70k miles or so. Correct? Well, I've seen this one 96 GSX for sale and I thought about getting it. But this crankwalk stuff is holding me back. The engine has around 100k miles on it (I thought that if the crankwalk occured the engine would be messed up by now). What do you guys think? Should I get the car or pay a couple of thousands more for an 97-99???

I was in your shoes 2 years ago, I do not regret buying, but with a wife and 3 kids rebuilding an engine, piping a FMIC, brakes and many other things have consumed my free time.

Actually, the wife and three kids aren't rebuilding the engine :)

get under the car and push the harmonic balancer in towards the engine. Then have a friend push in the clutch while you hold on to the harmonic balancer (engine NOT running). If it moves axially you are buying some work.
