crankshaft seal install

quick question. are yo supposed to put oil/greese around around the outside (part that makes contact with the front case) or just tap it in dry. i know your supposed to use grease on the inside....

Leave the outside dry - just make sure both mating surfaces are clean when you press in that seal...and in all due actuality: all seals are inserted dry.
