So i just got my car back together and noticed an oil leak...from between the head and block on front passenger side. this will soon be my dailey driver and i havent torn it down yet, but has anyone had this problem? what should i expect for repairs and cost?

Call me crazy, but I would find out where the oil is coming from for sure. Then find out why the oil is coming from there. After that possibly consider replacing things. I am sure many people have had leaks from that area. Maybe taking some pictures or making a good video would help people help you solve your problem

Sounds like a hg, maybe were not going to know until you find out where the leak is coming from and why, other wise we are just guessing, pull the head and tell us what you know, again so many variables. Its going to depend on what needs replacing could be a gasket and thats it. IF thats the case youll need a head gasket replaced a couple of hundred depending on where you go, and what you replace. Passenger side could also be oil pump gasket, find out where the leaks are coming from.

Pulling the valve cover tonight. I tooks some pics but dont know how to post...(noob)

Sounds like a head gasket to me. My friend's did the same thing when his went.

noob question, how do you post pics?

Dsm in mn, best post ive seen in a while.
OP Please post some visuals so we can help you. Oh and the oil feed is in the back of the block so i doubt its the hg.

its leaking that the front of the engine, passenger side

You need to clean the area and then run it for short periods until the oil shows back up, this will help you trace back the leak. It could very possibly be just a valve cover gasket. But your first step should be cleaning the area and tracking down the leak.

The 4G oil passage from block to head is there, it is part of the head bolt hole

On a 2g the turbo gets fed by the filter housing. The head location is pluged with a plug and crush washer. It can either be valve cover,CPS housing or the worst case HG. Clean the shit out of the area and see where the leak is coming from. I usually use a dye in the oil with a purple light to pin point it exactly to its orgin. Good Luck.

imageshack.us upload your image.. select resize image for 640x480 for message boards before you upload.. then when it uploads go to the picture and copy and paste the embedded image link. easy as that

. the oil could be from the pressure for the head or the drain.. the pressure for the head i think is in the center.. it has drains in the corners doesnt take much to leak out those.. ive seen it before on new headgaskets.. doubt anything is cracked so dont be worried ha

The pressure to the head comes from the passenger front corner of the block as stated already by Bogus.

The oil return ports are not under pressure, so they are less likley to leak.

The oil port is underpressre, and will leak, common on heads that have been surfaced improperly

well i meant the pressure one.. but nice to have a pic for the OP..also i had a picture of a honda block in my head when i thought of that.. something about a restrictor for VTEC or something.. im not a honda guy just built a few and race them now

just did a dye test. looks like it starts right around the thermostat housing, seeps out all the way to the front corner and runs down the block. valve cover is sadly not the problem, LOL

And the crush washer on the head is not leaking (front passenger corner)? There's nothing that would leak on the thermostat housing except for the valve cover. Is the breather port connected to anything on the valve cover? If it is a heavy leak then you should be able to see it drip.
