so I sent my car to get it tuned, but it was leaking coolant and I couldnt locate the leak so before they tried to tune it I asked for a leak down and coolant pressure test to find out where my coolant was leaking from and to see if my headgasket was good car passed everything all it needed was a high pressure cap, but when they put it on the dyno it started loosing coolant again but only when its under boost. The shop said its a cracked block or head was lifting under boost, does this sound correct? also if the block is cracked what would be the next step from here? the block has stock 6 bolt pistons and rods etc so is there a way of salvaging this block? iam looking for the most cost effective way possible let me know, thanks.

Why did it need a high pressure cap, was it pushing coolant out the over flow bottle?
Was it over heating?
What area of the engine was it leaking out of?
How much coolant was leaking out?
How much boost were you running?

yes it was coming from the overflow and it was overheating because of no coolant it would run out in a matter of days, the egt's were really high around 13-1400 even with meth. Was running about 20-22psi People driving behind me while I was getting on would tell me water was hitting their winshield from my car. Hope this helps

Sounds like a leaking head gasket to me. My EGT's were getting to a little over 1600F when I would floor it on the freeway. 1300 - 1400 is not that bad at all. Either way you need to pull the head and atleast replace the head gasket. I just did mine a couple weeks ago from a coolant leak. I put it back together without checking the block for warpage and it's still leaking coolant into the cylinder #1. Make sure the head and block are checked for warpage.

Well, its a long shot but...

Have you checked your oil for any signs of coolant? I had something similar happen on a turbo dodge, it was some air pockets got trapped somehow in the coolant system, it overheated, lost coolant..

I checked it myself but didnt notice any mixture, they bled and refilled the coolant not sure if air pockets is the problem

Car runs strong, put down 290 on e85 but cant turn the boost up or run any timing because it blows the coolant out of the overflow. Yes it has head studs

shop claims they did a leakdown and everything was good, there were no bubbles whatever that means...

headgasket. Get a couple of the strips to test the coolant for combustion gas contamination. They change color if they detect any traces of exhaust gas. with 22lbs of boost I doubt your lifting the head. I lifted a head once on my powerstroke-it had arp headstuds, fire-ringed, and copper head gaskets. It didnt lift until I hit 90lbs-LOL. completely different animal, but I still doubt your lifting the head. More likely the gaskets bad. For the shop to suggest a cracked block BEFORE a headgasket is unfounded. As for your internals, switch them to the new motor if it turns out you need it. Id have the motor magnafluxed (head and block) if you rebuild to ensure there are NO ISSUES!

I had a similar problem made good horsepower and everything but for some reason the car pushed coolant over 25psi read a couple post and figured i would just pull the head and true enough it was the head gasket here is the video of the problem area on the head gasket. I had the head resurfaced replaced the head gasket and installed a fresh set of arp studs. Ended up overtorqueing one of my arps and pushed coolant again. to solve the problem I pulled the engine oringed the block and put a set of L19 studs no more problems. I could have gotten by without this exteme but I got tired of pulling the head off.:boring:
