I found a crack in my rim after noticing a flat. So I took it to a local wheel shop and they said that they can weld it for $100 and guarentee it. Well, is it pretty safe to weld the rim? I would buy a new rim knowing that it would cost that much more, but the discountinued the rims that I have (fuking suks). But I didn't want to have to buy a new set of rims even if I know I want 19s. So would it be safe or will it just crack again? Let me know, Thanks Joe

If you're going to let them fix it, watch them and make sure it will balance properly. Also put them in the rear.

even if the rim is discontinued you can go directly to the distributor (not the store) and find out if they have any left coz distributors sell/loan single rims to stores for display. distributors usually have a record on what store has it on display. and most of the time they'll get you the rim, what they do is send the store a different rim to display in exchange, so they can get the rim that you want and sell it to you. what rim is it exactly? i hope i made sense... i got confused re-reading it.

If the shop is good, then the rim repair shouldn't give you any troubles. I cracked a rim and once they repaired it, I couldn't even tell where the crack was on it. It's still holding strong even after a late night curbing at 25 mph.

$100 bucks sounds like alot for the job though.

I dont know how much work is needed on yours but I had a rim crack once and I got it welded for $25 bucks and never had any problems with it.

They ground out the area to be welded, welded it up good, ground the weld so it was as smooth as possable then balanced the tire/rim.

Guy musta spent a good half hour to 45 minutes on it.
