Safe To Drive??

I have a 90 FWD N/T Eclipse...I've been told my rack and pinion are rusted badly..and when I turn (seems only when I turn left) I hear a really bad creaking noise, and it's usually when I'm going slower. What do you think this could be and is it safe to drive?

i would say you shouldn't drive on it much without knowing what the problem is. mine had the same symptoms once except for the rusty pinion and it ended up being that the ball joints just needed to be lubed.

i was out of town and didn't have access to my garage so i took it to a shop and they said thats all it was and they greased the ball joints with a syringe and presto....no more squeak.

i'm not saying this is necessarily your problem but its a possiblilty and frankly, the best thing it could be.

ummm i wouldn't, i care about my safety. i would consider fixing it before it breaks and you have a bad crash

yea i'm going to have to agree, it's not good to drive on that.

especially considering it could be something small like a joint needing lube, and driving it could do bad damage that didn't have to happen.

Yeah i know it probably isnt too safe but it only makes the creaking noise every so often..like hardly ever...but yeah ill defineatly try lubing up the joints..thanks
