I ran the codes today on my 98 spyder gs.
It's been having a bad shifting problem and the codes came back as an o2 sensor.
Could that cause it to not shift? I'd like to know before I go buy the part and it not even be near the cause.

Ok, what dose the car do exactly? i had a 95 auto that would shift from 1st. to 2nd then would get stuck in 2nd. And would not come out, and it turned out to be where i ran something over & when I did it broke a wiring plug off that goes into the front bottom of the tranny and caused it to act like this!?. So whats it doing?

Thats exactly what it does. The only time I get it back to first is when I turn the car on and off. From a dead stop (when it's stuck) I rev up to like 25-2700 rpm and I'm only at around 10 mph

And now that I think about it, I changed the speed sensor and it fixed the problem. Afterwards about a week later I was flying down a dirt road and it was pretty rocky, the problem happened after I started the car back up. Do you think a rock could have kicked up and broke something?

Yep, exactly what mine did, lay down in front of the car the right (driverside hole) in the bumper it's the plug directly behind that on the front of the tranny. Now mine wasn't broke off, but the clip that hold's it together broke so it would wiggle out i just used black tape to hold it as tight as possiable, because i could never find a replacement plug. So if i was you, I'd go check that, also since mine would wiggle out dirt and water would get in it so make sure its clean and rust free. Hope I've helped!

Yeah I think so, Because I had that automatic for like 6 year's, and hit the tree limb like the 4th month i had it and delt with it acting like that for 2 year's. Then I finally found the problem and a rock deffinatly could do it.

Your welcome, I really hope it is this because, everyone I've talked to with auto's (only like 2 other people) had the same thing happen.

Be sure and let me know if it fixes the problem!

I found a wire by the alternator. I couldn't tell if it was in the alternator or right next to it but the wire to the sensor is completely cut. What sensor is that?

It's the sensor that shifts the tranny just strip it back a little bit and connect it and tape it and it should work

It's cut literally right at the sensor. I'm sure with a lot of time and patience I could get it back but just in case, is there a certain name for it? And if so, where could I look into getting a cheap one?

your best bet would be a junkyard because I tryed to get a brand new one from auto zone/advanced auto, they couldn't get it. Also dealer couldn't find one so I would look at junkyards, or strip a little off the wire, pull the rest of the wire out of the plug and shove the stripped wire into the hole and tape it up really good, until you find a new plug at a junk yard.

and hold on and ill see if i can find the name of it,

Thanks, if you find the name, I'll call around. I stripped it back as much as I could and I could feel the car wanting to shift. I guess I just have to work it a little bit more.

I wasn't able to get it fixed. I'm just going to have to find another sensor to put in. Ugh, so much work to just sell it.
