correct return line size

i picked my 60-1 form the rebuilder last week. and im really unsure what size to use for a return line. and one more question do i need to use a restrictor one the on feed line. and do i feed for the head or oil filter

Most people use -10 AN for the oil return line. I would recommend feeding from the head as there is much less pressure up there then down at the OFH. As far as the restrictor, go with what the manufacturer of the turbo recommends.

Feed: Filter housing with .075"-.095" restrictor; head unrestricted if your head source has a minimum of 35psi while under load. If you feed from either source without checking pressure first, you run the risk of killing the turbo through excessive oil or oil deprivation.

Drain: As big as possible. The -10AN kits sold for journal bearing Garretts are smaller than stock....you'd literally be better off modding a stock drain line to work.
 
ok i have a 4an feed line with earl's in line filter. and if i ran that from the head, what size are the threads for the head. and would it be ok to run a banjo bolt off the side of the head? if i modded a 1g return line work what work or would i need bigger?
 
Return line is simple..BIG, anything smaller than stock is retarded. Stock size or bigger.




As for the feed, you need to find the min and max oil pressure recommended for the turbo in question, get a sending unit and test the source your planning on using, and adjust the pressure from that source via restrictor until it falls into an acceptable range. It's not a simple throw it on afair unless it's a proven combo for a specific setup. And then it would still be wise to check it first. No one wants to kill a $1600 turbo because they didn't feel like checking the oil pressure right? Not saying OP turbo is worth that much but some are.
 
Go with -10 for the return. As for the restrictor that is only used for Ball Bearing turbos.


Restrictors are NOT only used for BB turbos. If you are feeding from the OFH, and have eliminated your balance shafts, and have not done something like port the OFH relief port etc. You will have VERY high oil pressure, upwards of 100+ psi, and even a journal bearing turbo wont like that.


Normally however if your feeding from the head, you wont have a problem with a journal bearing. But results very from setup to setup. So I still maintain it is wise, unless the setup is well proven to check the pressures and compare them to the pressure range the turbo was designed to operate in.
 
i ve been thinking of getting this for a oil return. and also of getting one of these for the oil feed . i also need to know what size of bolt i need for the size of the head so i can test for oil pressure and also block it off if need be. and also i need t get a forward facing oil filter so my down pipe will clear.



so is 10mm x 1.25 Thread right for oil feed on head?
