Correct boost gauge source

After installing my boost gauge today and taking it for a test drive, it didnt seem right

The stock boost on a 1g is 10-11 psi correct? My boost gauge only read 4 psi.

This is on a bone stock 1g auto awd. I tapped the FP solenoid for the source. The two vac lines going to the solenoid, I tapped the bottom line.

Just wanted to double check. Thanks
 
the boost gauge line should go between the intake manifold and the fuel pressure solenoid. If its reading only 4psi then you either have a really bad boost leak at your boost gauge or somewhere else (i.e your intercooler pipes, hoses, etc) or the gauge you just installed is very inaccurate. Start by checking for boostleaks. is the car driving any different?
 
John is correct. Do not rely on the stock gauge for anything other than seeing that positive airflow is beig made - highly inaccurate. Do a boost leak test and fix the leaks you have. Yiur car will run much better too after fixing them.
 
Im not relying on the stock boost gauge. I installed an aftermarket prosport gauge, tapped on the fp solenoid line. The car does not drive bad, I have fixed a few boost leaks.

Could it be the gauge? Is this the correct spot?
 
if you don't have any boost leaks then check to see if the line to the boost gauge is not kinked or cut. and yes as stated above between the fps and the intake manifold is where you want it . if the line to the boost gauge is not torn or what not then yeah the gauge might me bad. i wouldn't be surprised to see the Prosport gauge reading wrong. I had one before and it said i had 2 lbs of boost when the car was off LOL.

Sounds like you has a lot more leaks still. You should be able to hold 20psi steadily without it falling off depending on the seals your intake valves have since they should be closed.
 
What you can do is when you do a boost leak test, have someone sit in the car and watch the boost gauge as you pressurize the system. When you pressurize to your desired PSI, let your friend know whose sitting in the car what psi your at and see if your boost gauge matches your readings. so say if you fill up to 15psi at the turbo and your gauge is only reading 2 psi after fixing ALL your boost leaks, then either
A: your new prosport gauge is junk
B: you have a kink in the hose from where you tapped your boost gauge to the boost gauge itself
C: the sending unit is junk
D: it was installed incorrectly.

What this guy said. Do a boost leak test, get around 20 psi in there. Then take a look at your new gauge. Does it read 20psi? Close to 20psi? It should. If not, it's the gauge.

If it does.. then you have lots of boost leaks to track down and fix.

Also I've always read that tapping the FPR line is a bad idea.. but what do I know. I added a few nipples to my IC piping, ran one to the boost gauge, another to my BOV.

I checked all the vac lines and theres no tears/rips in them. Ill perform a proper leak test today. I doubt a boost leak is the issue though

Im unsure. It goes under the intake manifold. The top line from that solenoid goes directly to the FPR. So there has to be a vac source going to that solenoid.

Its different from the 2g, which is what im familiar with

fixed about 5 leaks today. Car runs and idols smooth. The gauge now reads 7 psi at WOT. Only one leak left and it was a small one, which will be fixxed soon.

What is vacuum suppose to be at? I have a feeling mine is really really low.
 
It appears that is the correct location to tap for your boost gauge. That solenoid is the fuel pressure solenoid; one side (with the blue dashed hose) should run to the fuel pressure regulator; the other, which you have tapped into, runs to the intake manifold.

Also, the manual states vacuum should be 18-19 in. Hg. at idle.
 
This problemis pissing me off guys.

Boost gauge reads 0 vacuum now. I sent the boost gauge into prosport to get checked out and they said nothing is wrong with it. I know there is something wrong with it. Im very disapointed in prosport. Im going to hook up a known working boost gauge that reads vacuum.

Theres no way my car has 0 vac.


Scary part is the guy at prosport told me to tap the BOV line for the most accurate reading. He said that a vacuum nipple directly off the Intake manifold wasnt correct.

Im not sure what they are thinking.

You are right. If the engine produced 0 vacuum, it wouldn't run.

And the BOV line leads somewhere other than the intake manifold? ROFL

Don't tap the BOV line for anything. I'm sure you have it right, but make sure you have tapped the correct side of the fuel pressure solenoid -- the one leading to the intake manifold and not the fuel pressure regulator -- since hoses can be switched around.

When you say that the boost gauge reads 0 vac, is that when engine is idling, or is that when you are accelerating?
 
Thats what it reads when it is idling. No load on the engine.

My gauge was off because of my altitude, but i adjusted it to 0. The needle moves when I hit the gas

It has to be the gauge. When I recieve it back im going to install a buddys gauge that we know works. If it reads any different Im gonna let prosport hear it. I had to pay return shipping on a gauge that I know is broken. BULL
