Well guys you are the experts on boosted 4 cylinders, so I came here in need of help.

Everyone pretty much knows that running a copper headgasket runs the risk of leaking water or oil.

Has anyone here ever heard of o-ringing the waterjackets as well as the cylinders?

Thanks in advance,

J

On a full copper HG I would 0-ring everything. If it is a dead soft copper just cut the rings in the block and deck and the gasket will form it's own rings.

On a MLS just spray it.

But a dead soft copper HG it may be a good idea to ring the oil pressure (don't bother with the return passages) and the coolant passages.

It is'nt an issue of boost pressure but one alot like those who have run into trouble with the MLS.

Thanks a million.

Can't wait to run against the likes of you guys at the track.

If you see a black Beretta GTZ, with black wheels, and blacked out windows near detroit MI, just be careful how much money you put down on the race. ;-)

lets see, a quad 4 H.O. (2.3, 180 hp N/A) running 9 psi (on lowered compression) runs mid 13's in the 1/4 mile....

What about 16 psi, alchohol injection, and a 75 shot of nitrous? Its going to fun thats all I know. :)

Appreciate the help.

Wish me luck that this actaully gets done in the next 6-8 months.......

Quad 4...

Hmm built one of them once.

The lumpiest cams from the Gm performance catalog. head and block work... alot of mods.. My bud's calais intl. Was in the area of 275hp or so all motor.

If it is a quad really and I mean really improve the sealing around the oil pressure and coolant passages. The HG on those things are always a biotch... It is the only trouble I can think of with those.

Thanks for the tip. Yes its a Quad 4.

Basically, I've put together a recipe from several racing teams and it should run quite nicely. I'm questioning whether or not to convert to rear wheel drive though. The kits are pretty cheap but the fabrication will take some more time....

Didn't want to get into this arguement.

look up a few things on turbo Quad 4's.

start counting the land speed records. If the design wasn't hacked in 1995 to allow a smoother ride, who knows how far it would have gone.

I came here because you guys live and breath boost. I didn't come here to argue.

Lets just leave it as this,

Both engines are engineering peices of ART. The DSM motors are born for boost. The Quad 4 was born to be a 250-300 hp naturally aspirated monster of a small engine, BUT when they strapped a turbo to it, they broke almost every land speed record with a mostly stock motor.

The W41 's where whooping Type R's on and off the track, but because the Type R was a huge publicity deal, it stole the spotlight.

Stock for stock, an N/A W41 Calais Quad 442 runs the same 1/4 mile times as an 1st Gen AWD Turbo Talon/Eclipse. Something to think about.

Other than you, the rest of you guys have been really helpful and I thank you for it.

Where in troy are you located?

I'm near Sterling Heights. When I get it all put together I'll meet you at Lapeer dragway.

my car's back to stock, so i wont be going there until the colt is done. never been to the lapeer track anyways, milan is usually the track of choice.

im at 19 and crooks btw. where in sterling heights are you at, my whole family lives out there. i'd be cool to stop by and see this beretta project you got goin.

near 19 and scheonner.

Not much to look at right now. Wait about 5 months and the project should start looking a bit more interesting.

the supercharger on the way looks like this one:

Supercharger

mine is a few stages better than this one. It requires a BOV and runs like 11 psi on the stock pulley.

i went to my friends dorm at kettering and there was a beretta with a sc like that sticking out the hood. i guessed it was off a mid 90's bonneville, wasnt sure though. it had a sweet adapter plate and all. we just stood in the parking lot and stared.

he's definately local, his car is even on cardomain somwhere. i just searched 5 min ago for it but couldnt find it. maybe you can *shrugs*.

LOL

I'm a student at kettering.

He is a member of the TX fraternity, (Theta XI) I'm a member of another fraternity. He has a supercharger on an 3400 60* V6. The 60* v6 is a killer on height, thats why it sticks out.

I've beaten 3400 Berettas with my stock Quad 4. just to give you an idea of the capability of this little 4 cylinder.

Yeah all motor quads are sweet. I helped build one like that too.

Mine will be about 350-400 hp with about an equal amount of torque. :)

and thats without nitrous.....

take care of your engine!

common misconception. always use premium, let the engine cool after hard use, never let it over heat. GM produced a better headgasket in 91.
