Hello everyone and thanks for looking. I have a 1991 eagle talon tsi awd with a few mods. I've looked around to see if anyone COP setup has been getting overheated with no luck. I'll explain myself better. I installed the COP from 300m in my car and it was ok. I let it idle for about 30 minutes just to be sure, and everything was ok. I started driving the car when suddenly the car just felt without any time of power what so ever. I stopped because i litterally floored the car and it didn't even go past 2k rpms. When I touched the power transistor/COP they litterally where boiling hot. Luckily i had the stock coils with me and changed them and the car started perfectly. I checked the wiring on the coils and redid it. Recently I've installed a Megasquirt v1 and installed the COP setup once more. Again while we were setting the idle with the Megasquirt it took more like 25 minutes and the COP were cold and again after driving the COP setup it lost power and again installed the stock coils it started.
If anyone can give a hand here or at least point me in the right direction I'll appreciate it.
Thanks

I haven't had any problems with my setup in over a year of running it. I know you checked already, but maybe it isn't wired correctly or maybe one of your coils is bad. Use this diagram as a guide:

Ok. Thanks I'll be re-checking the connections
Any idea on the overheating of the coils???

I am having the same problem only with coils 1 and 4. They get very very hot within seconds. I have checked and rechecked the wiring and the wire and all connections are done perfectly. Please advise??

Easy Fix = Get rid of the COP

It is a performance downgrade from stock, and you will have nothing but problems unless you have an engine management system with the ability to change dwell times.

I have to agree here. Having much experience with coils in hot places on bikes. Putting coils right over a hot cylinder head is'nt real good for the coils. Looks good but the windings get hot as that head gets, just imagine how hot to the tough the top of that aluminum valve cover is at operating temp.

thats why the coils are placed out of the way from heat stock. They are on the back side away from the head, and the exhaust. Now if you could configure a way to do one coil per cyl. mounted on the side away from the heat I'd be interested. Even the ls1 engines had coil per, and had them mounted away from the heat.
