Hey, I am installing an MS and want to know if the coolant sensor wire running to the ecu also powers the gauge in the cluster? I notice there are two sensors on the thermostat and wondering if the gauges have their own, or if that is for fan control? Does the ecu control the fan, or is that done by something else? I don't see a pinout on the ecu diagrams to control the radiator fan anywhere.

There are three coolant sensors the lowest 1 wire, the middle 2 wire, and the top 2 wire with the small round plug.

The top one is for the A/C. The middle one is for the ecu and I think the single wire one goes to the guage but I don't know that for sure. I do know the other ones for sure though.

Hope thats helps.

That's correct ^^

There is a coolant temp gauge sending unit (that controlls, obviously, the gauge). The coolant temp sensor (2 wires, one yellow, one green) is right next to it.

Here we go, I will use Ye Olde Trusty 1g Thermo Housing Picture. Used in many threads and a Tech Article....Here it is again:

where A = coolant temp fan switch (for cars with A/C only) - unplugged in my pic, due to half-assed removal of A/C.
B = coolant temp sensor
C = gauge sending unit.

Pardon the electrical tape...I had to rewire all of my sensors, due to the original wires becoming old, brittle and crusty.

Don't you love those twist locks?

Definitely. I should buy stock in them, considering how often I have occasion to rewire something on this damn car. LOL.

Yea whats up with the wiring on these things. Ive worked on cars twice as old with more flexible wiring. It all gets brittle and breaks. I dont think the underhood temp is that much higher then a normal car except up by the turbo?
