hello all. So here is a quick rundown of the situation, car is a 97 gsx. Recently i just fixed my cracked oil pan and on my test drive yesterday my coolant level was low, so i filled it up with some antifreeze. I decide to go for another drive this morning and notice my coolant level is still low, so i fill it up again. I take the car to work, come back home, pop the hood and the overflow bottle is almost to the brim with fluid. Now heres the thing. I recently redid my oil pan and saw no water or evidence or coolant in my oil. On my drive to work, it was hot, maybe 85 degrees but the car did not overheat. I have no idea when the rad cap or thermostat have been replaced. Anyone have any insight on this? Could this be the beginning of a huge problem? Thanks again

Take the rad cap off and let the car idle till the thermostat opens (fans turn on) it may help because there might be air in the system

You can burp it also I just waited till there was zero bubbles

Yeah, could be some air in the system. Do like GuitarKid says, while the cap is open and the motor is cold, bump the throttle. If cold water shoots out you likely have a blown head gasket. Can test for hydrocarbons in the antifreeze as well. If it is a small leak there will be hydrocarbons.

Blown head gaskets do not always dump oil in the water or vice versa. Sometimes it just goes straight out the exhaust. Best to catch early though.

Pressure test the coolant system. Worst case you may have a cracked head that puts cylinder pressure into the cooling system. That way you may not get coolant in the oil.

New issue. After changing the cap and thermo i find out that my overflow bottle lid was not closing shut! So it would stay open when i would be driving. Also figured out the overflow bottle was the wrong bottle. The lid is oem and the bottle is different so the cap would snap off later on. Would the coolant traveling through the water neck just flow into the overflow? I was purging the system and saw this. The line to the overflow was actually hot.

The only time the coolant should be going to the overflow is when the radiator cap has reached its max pressure. If it does this right off the bat, you have a blown gasket or a craked head. Test for hydrocarbons and pressure test the system. Until you do this anything else is just speculation. No point in talking about it any longer until this is done.
