Coolant leaking from water pump timing cover hole. Wtf?

I have some coolant leaking out of the timing cover bolt hole on the water pump. WTF Anyone have this problem before? Its a new pump and new gasket. Would one of them be bad, or should I just put some thread sealant on it? Thanks.

I did something like this on my oil housing. I put one bolt with the gasket on it in the hole then threaded it. When I put the other bolts in the gasket must have slid two far up because every bolt punched a hole through the gasket. I didn't even realize what happened till I started the car and it poured oil on the floor. My guess is you did something like that

You might tight it to much and cracked it.

I wouldn't use any sealant, I don't think sealant will hold on the long run,,, well, who knows, maybe some JB Weld and the bolt in it.

Seriously, I would get another water pump, unless you want to take the risk to leak and overheat on the road.

OP, is it coming from the little "weeping" hole? If so then the pump is bad. If not it could be the gasket is muffed.

Ya coming from small hole where timing cover bolts to it. Im guessing it's cracked even though it new and I tightened it according to specs.

What specs did you tighten it to?

If its leaking from the bolt treads then you probably just need to put some thread sealant on the treads. If coolant can get to the treads then it will leak past them. Ran into this problem doing a w/p on a GM.
