I am new at the hole forum thing, so bear with me. I recently rebuilt my 93 Tsi engine and did some small mods including ARP head studs. Shorty after i parked it for the winter. Then the other day i started her up, and took it for a rip when it started to steaming out from under the hood, so i drove it straight home. I found that head was leaking coolant near the water pump. this puzzled me because the head gasket had only 4000 miles on it. What do u guy think of Felpro head gaskets? :cry:
 
It's possible it's just the gasket for the water pump gave way. I've had this happen before - it's a PITA. Just to be sure, I'd double check all your lines, as well as the coolant line behind the turbo. Maybe it's spraying from a different location.
 
IMHO, the headgasket is the only place I wouldn't put anything else than a Mitsu gasket. For the price difference versus the cost of replacing failing parts due to Failpro gaskets the decision was rather simple. Having said that, I agree with lacroixdp on this one, eliminate any other possibilities before hand and should you have to pull the engine to replace failed gaskets, take the time and replace the head one too :thumb:
 
Unless you are making 600+ hp, a $200 felpro gasket is not worth it. I would stay with either a felt gasket if your aren't getting anything resurfaced or a mitsu metal gasket if you are resurfacing.

the gasket i used was a cheap Felpro 40 doller gasket, because the stocker was a week late in the mail. the head was milled .010 and was gone over with a fine tooth comb when i did the rebuild. I can see that the coolant is definitely flowing from the head. could this have been the resault of the engine being overheated before being parked for the winter?
What would u suggest for a replacement after i have the head checked?
 
It happens, ## a Proven Member, maybe u can help me. I've been trying to figure out what turbo up grade id like to go with. I have been doing research, and reading lots of Threads, but im still not sure what to go with. I'd like to run a big 16G with some good supports. what would u suggest for 20psi. (street/strip)
 
DD no, weekend worrier hopefully . Well this is what i have done so far. front mount, tubing, bOV .040 over stock type pistons, ARP main & head studs, BS removed, 255lph pump, FPR, cat removed, fully striped down. But, still running stock turbo and injectors with 15psi of boost. id like to make 325AWHP. what would u do next besides 3" turbo back.
 
Hmmm... you'd outgrow a Evo III pretty quick at the rate your going. I'd go with something like a FP Green. You'd definitely want DSMLink and I'd go with 950 or 1050cc FIC injectors. Does your FMIC have a GM MAF or a 2nd gen MAF? I'd definitely get some more opinions on this - I haven't built up a DSM in over 4 years and things have changed since back then :D
 
Thanks for the advice, any help i can get i am grateful for. i have a understanding of turbo charging but the more i talk to Proven Members, i realize there is more i do not know, then i do know about. will, a stock Mistu head Gasket work no my engine even tho it is punched out .040 over?
