So I got my new Auto 2.3 in today, which we have a side story for about the delivery drivers 'test' driving the vehicles.....but that's for another thread.
I knew that this car was running rich, but I didn't know quite how bad. It is a 6 bolt swap and is wired up using the stock 2G wiring harness. Everything is wired correctly, but upon starting I could hear an obvious leak. Also, the exhaust smelled like coolant which lead me to believe that the head gasket was farked, even though it was properly milled, checked, and the head leveled. (IE I have the paperwork and recently got to see the block first hand... wow is all I can say.) Spraying it down with starting fluid, I found that there was a massive vacuum leak at the intake mani. We pulled the rail and the mani...and what I found explained where the coolant was going.
There was traces of coolant in the throttle body. The Pre-Heat coolant lines are plugged into it (they soon will be blocked and the FIAV blocked manually per Liquids' method. Upon removing the intake manifold, we found that there was about a good solid inch of coolant standing in it. Problem found - Throttle Body.
So, I am sure that the engine is still fine, having not damaged anything due to the liquid in it as the compression is 185 across the board..the lowest variation being 183. There were no bubbles in the coolant, no leaks in the engine. Everything else is pristine. I just want to follow up on this. By blocking off the FIAV per Liquids' (Scott's) method, and capping the coolant lines to the TB, this should eliminate any issue with coolant getting into the manifold, correct? Is there a way for a blown turbo to do this? I know that's a stretch, but that's the only way I can see coolant getting into the intake manifold.
