So of course once I rebuilt my turbo my hacked up Dsm decided to start burning coolant. So here's what happened.... I started it up and the manifold gradually started smoking more and more then after awhile the exhaust started smoking and then it was REALLY wet in the exhaust. I turned it off and looked for leaks didn't see any. Looked under and saw a line that is connected to the back of the turbo leaking from where the rubber connects to the pipe. I looked for leaks where it was connected to the turbo and that seemed dry and ok. Looked at the gasket for the downpipe and 02 housing and it seemed to be a tad wet. Turned out that line on both sides of the rubber was kinda loose so I tightned and the drip slowed down because it was pretty consistent drip(1 second intervals). So Ive been looking on the forums and couldn't find much so some help would be nice. Thanks for looking!:dsm:

However, the only way I can think of for coolant to come out of the exhaust is a leaking headgasket. Hard to tell in the pictures, but is the exhaust simply burning off condensation.

It wasn't bad before the rebuild so I doubt it. Pretty sure it's just the rear coolant line not getting proper pressure because of the leak.

What does the coolant line not getting proper pressure mean and have to do with it coming out of exhaust? Am I missing something here?!?

I have no idea to be honest. I just noticed something this morning. I let the car run for a little bit and it's got a lot of white smoke out the exhaust but it was also super wet outside so I would imagine any car to do this from condensation. After I shut it off I noticed a noise from the exhaust manifold sounding like a drip then the drip "burning" like when you drop water onto a hot stove. It sounded internal to the manifold. I'm praying its not a blown headgasket but any help would be appreciated. I'll post a video in a bit.

coolant leaking out of the exhaust could be a couple of things if you have a turbo that is cooled by coolant it could be the seals int he turbo or like it was said above a head gasket, but with a HG problem you could have coolest mix with oil or visa versa, or your degas bottle (coolant overflow) would be filled

The copper washers might leak since you reused them, but they wouldn't leak into the exhaust. That might be the sizzling you heard. Frankly with only 120 compression I would just go ahead and rebuild the engine and replace all the normal gaskets and maintenance items. 120 is minimum service limits.

Hello. In my opinion, you should probably do a compression test... I'd hate to break this news to you, but a blown HG can manifest itself a number of ways. Not just the infamous oil mixing with water/chocolate milkshake that most people think of.

Hey. Either test would tell of your cylinder and HG condition. I'm lazy :D so the compression test would be my first thing because it's easier LOL... Anyway, after verifying the engine is indeed in good internal order, you may want to move on to checking the turbo itself?? I'm in no way an expert on that though. Just a guess here, but maybe it's possible that the turbo has cracked in the inside of the turbine housing where the coolant flows :idontknow: ??
