i have been looking at turbos for a while now and i was wondering if a t28 would be a good upgrade from a big16g for someone who uses the car as a daily driver. how do those two turbos compare? i was also wondering what kinda upgraded fuel system, if any, i would need if i went with a t28. i dont think ill be getting a new turbo any time real soon, but its something i would like to think about and begin to save money for. thanks!

mods:
full 3inch straight pipe
turbo xs type H
stupid cone intake
upgraded sparkplug wires
boost gauge
racing clutch
and soon to come new upper and lower IC piping and lighter flywheel

I'll give my advice, but you should do a search
The answer to this is pretty easy.
"i was wondering if a t28 would be a good upgrade from a big16g" -- No, "If its a regular t28" the big16 will out flow a t28.
There's so many differnt versions of the T-28. killer, big etc. If you compared to a killer. or big t28 to a big16g, the are close to the same in flow numbers. You just don't need a kit to install the t28 to a 2g.
I would just stick with a big16 get a boost controller turn the psi a couple of notches., inless you wanted something more, I would go with 20g, or something with a 50trim.
Fuel mods, all depends how fast you wanna go.

im sorry, i meant to say is a t28 a good upgrade from a t25. i dont need to push a lot of boost... i just want like 18-20psi, efficiently.

my vote goes to 16G

the whole turbo lag idea is worth shit IMO.. i've driven a t28 killer and a b16g dsm and the lag is almost negligable.. it's like what less than 500 rpm difference? to some that's a big margin but to the average joe it wont even matter.

plus the extra 50 or so CFM is always a plus

I have an FP Big 28 on my car. I really enjoy this turbo. Not only does it spool real low, but it spools really fast and hard. The jump from 7 to 17PSI is nearly instantaneous. Also, if you are doing the work yourself, then it will be a little easier to install the T28.

If your car is FWD, then the slightly laggier Big 16G would definitely be a better bet. You may have slightly more traction by the time the turbo hits full boost, although you will most likely be capable of spinning wheels in 1st and 2nd gear with both turbos.

If your car is AWD, then it is up to you. Traction is not an issue, especially if you have aftermarket suspension parts.

Autocrossers seem to really like the T28, which is why I bought one. I am more interested in running through the twisties as opposed to going fast in a straight line, but that is just me. Most people seem to enjoy drag racing more.

sigh, back to the thinking room. sometimes i wish i could adjust the lag on my turbo...

ive driven my friend's big16g and i liked the pull, but it lagged a lot, which could be good for saving gas. i do like the t25's minimal lag because it has saved me in a number of cases where i was going up a steep hill and didnt downshift, or i was passing a tractor trailer, or something like that. i dunno, i guess having awd it might make sense to get the t28, and also thinking about my driving id like my turbo to spool quicker.

does anyone know where i can get a list of the CFM of differnet turbos? i wanna know the t25, t28, 16g and big16g.

When driving spiritedly, most people shift into the rev range where most turbos are still making boost. When we launch a car we are also in that range. So my question to people that complain about lag, besides the 2 situations I just described, does it really matter any other time?

it matter on how you use the turbo. Like COwpimp a optimal AutoCross is low lag turbo because one you exit the corner you want the boost to be on tap you hit the pedal. Drag you need that topend speed with a bigger turbo.

Since you have a 2G I say go with the T-28 it is a good overall turbo that bolts right on to the 2G all u need is new gaskets, and some bolts. I help someone do a T-28 swap in 3 1/2 hours and it was both our first time doing a Turbo Swap:dsm:

Garrett Hybrid 'T28': Most of the T28s I've seen are only T28 compressor wheel stuffed in the stock housing. They NEVER produced any good results. Most often, they do damage to your engine because of the excessive heat generated by the incorrect housing. Experience has shown they're not worth buying.

i saw this information here

is there any merit to this?

the big 16g does not lag that much...your friends might have a leak somewhere...cuz if all opertaing and installed correctly the spool up is very fast...it was on my olg 16g and my candelas 16g out of all those turbos the big16g flows the most... but its your dolla...big 16g is the best bet...yeah t28 bolts right up..but you get more top end from a 16g...but like I said its your car.

This should give you some good information.
Need anything else?

Personal opinion tho, I say if your AWD and a 2nd gen... get BIG-t-28
If your a first gen get a BIG-16g.

dont listen to people who down the t28 i have the fp big28 and i love it
its one of the funniest setups you can find and flows the same as a big16g
most people who down this turbo have never been around it and would quickly change there mind if they had been you wouldnt belive how much harder this turbo pulls over the stock t-25, you will never regret getting it
i ran consistent 8.44's my first time at the local 1/8th mile track on pump gas :thumb:

yea i didnt even look at the date until after i posted i also did this on another post then felt pretty stupid and was hoping no one would notice o well sorry
