hey guys..there is someone selling a big 16g in the classifieds with a chipped up comp. wheel and he lives right next to me...anyway if i buy this turbo how difficult is it to replace a compressor wheel? and i was also thinking of putting a 20g wheel in it and i know you have to modify the housing some but i have never taken apart a turbo before so do you think i can do it?

You will also need the plate that goes behind of the 20G wheel, its bigger than the 16G. You should have the assembly balanced after installation.

Why is the compressor wheel chipped up? Did something fall in or was the turbo rebuilt at one time (after it made contact with the housing )?

i am sure someone has done this before...can anyone tell me how to take apart a 16g and replace the wheel or better replace with a 20g wheel? thanks!

I do not know how much a balance will cost you. In my opinion, you should just keep looking for another used undamaged 16G

If you take apart, you will need to rebuild it and sticking a 20g compressor wheel in there requires machining. This is not an easy job. In other words, if you have to ask the questions like you did above, you should not do this unsupervised. If you do, just realize you risk damage to both turbos.

Your better off buying something on ebay as metioned above. I have a frank 3 thats needs a rebuild and I was planning on rebuilding it myself, and I was looking into upgrading it to a frank 4 but it was going to cost 250 just for machining then about 100 for an ebay kit and 50 to balance, so I decided not to waste my time and just bought something else off ebay.
