well i just installed a new clutch*my first time so im sure i did something wrong* but anyways it wont engage, it took me about 10 minutes to get it into first gear..... what could i have possibly done wrong

tried o adjust it, didnt do the trick unless i did it wrong, wont go into any gear, and it grinds really bad in reverse...............any more suggestions

Have you tried to bleed the system? Is the slave cylinder leaking? Pull the rubber boot back on the slave and have a friend pump the clutch. If fluid comes out I recommend replacing the slave. How does the pedal feel when you put the clutch in? Hard, easy, noisy?

not real hard, but its kinda stiff.............LOL that didnt sound right but thats how it feels and yes i did bleed it

I bought a cheapo clutch many years ago on my Chevy LUV and it just plain did not work...

also make sure that the little rubber piece around the clutch fork (on the bottom of the tranny, I'm sure you know) is not bound up...check to make sure the clutch fork is moving correctly, be careful , you can pop it off if you start yankin on thte clutch fork, but you can bump it right back on. Just be aware of it.

did you try to bleed the lines? i had the same prob before and it took like 30min of bleeding the clutch before it engaged.

i bled the lines but only for like 8 minutes, ill try to bleed them some more and see if that does the trick, and its an OEM clutch, nothing fancy

you know its a 2 person job right.

Push your clutch in and have a buddy check if the clutch fork moves without hesitation or delay from when you push the pedal in.

the clutch fork moves right when u press the clutch pedal without hesitation, and my slave cylinder doesnt leak, and ive adjusted it and bled it and nothing is working...............

Who makes the clutch?

If it were me, I'd take the clutch out and do it all over again! Then if it doesn't work, I'm thinkin the clutch is just no good.

Did you get the flywheel machined? (stepped)

I am having basically the same problem with my clutch too. I put in an ACT 2600 with my new shep tranny. Now I can't get it into gear unless the car is off. Then when I start it in gear the car tries to drive off. I have bled the clutch and played with the "pushrod", got no where. I have a Fidanza flywheel on it already, so don't know what to say. Any suggestions??

Thanks,
Paul

Make sure you bleed the clutch like the page on VFAQ.com instructs. That was the problem with my clutch along with the shims under the pivot ball. RRE has a lot of information on their site, also.

Got it fixed. After tearing it out a few times I re-read the Haynes manual. In there it talks about shifting in Reverse, then to 1st and you do that numerous times. Somehow that fixed the problem, I guess it somehow aligned it up or something. :D

first off is this a first gen and second did you use an act, because their is step height on the flywheel that should be maintained when resurfacing and you ushall have to use a longer slave cylinder push rod I ushall go 5/8" longer and sometimes on first gens the clutch linkage under the dash gets sloppy and needs to be welded try checking these out

I have a 1G. Yes, I did use the clutch alignment tool. I have a Fidanza flywheel so I replaced the "replacement surface" so I am pretty sure that my flywheel "step up" is good. I did mess with my Master clyinder pushrod but that didn't do much for me. I just really don't know why it worked after doing all the shifting back and forth. I just figured I would mention this for others having problems cause it is a hell of a lot easier then dropping your tranny again like I did.

I am having shifting problems so I guess I'll post up and see if anyone has any ideas. I have an ACT 2600 in my car, new slave cylinder, and new master cylinder. I've adjusted the clutch, bled it at least 6-7 times. Now here's the problem. It's extremely hard to shift, it usually doesn't grind, it's just really hard to get it into gear. And occasionally it does grind a little (usually only 2nd) when I have the clutch to the floor. And sometimes if I'm lucky it shift fine, but that's not too often. I'm going to check a few things when I get a chance, but I want to see if anyone has any other ideas. Thanks in advance.
