New User to the board. I just bought a 96 Talon TSI AWD. Car has been sitting for about 8 years with periodic starting and moving. Once I got the engine running properly, the trans is the next issue. With the engine running your are able to put the vehicle in all 5 gears and reverse without pushing in the clutch. The clutch feels very spongy. The vehicle will not move with the clutch in or out in any gear. Master is full (doesn't appear to be the correct fluid, looks like atf), slave is moving with clutch pedal action. All linkages to the trans are connected and moving with shifter movement. It "feels" like it is going into gear as far as the shifter goes. Will be having my mechanic tear into it in the next few days but he is not terribly familiar with DSM's. Anything in particular he should look for? Thanks in advance

You said you can put the transmission in any gear with the engine running? I'm assuming that's a mistake or the first time I've ever heard if this. But if it were me I would start out with the cheapest first by changing out the fluid, bleed it and adjust the clutch pedal. If no luck change both clutch master and slave cylinder (oem parts highly recommended!) Bleed again, if no luck then I would dig into the clutch. After sitting for 8 years I wouldn't think it's a bad thing to replace all those things but I'm just a bit OCD about things. Definitely change all fluids and filters though.

I had similar issue on mine a few weeks ago. I could put in all gears with engine off when engine was on could not put in any gear, I replaced the master and slave and ran a extream psi stainless full clutch line still had same issue. Ended up being a spring in the clutch disc broke free. I went with a cheap xtd stage 2 clutch works great again.

No, you read correctly. You can put it in any gear while it is running without pressing in the clutch. Almost like the clutch is stuck engaged. Plan on replacing the master/slave and line and refilling with the proper fluid, bleeding and adjusting to start with. If that doesn't resolve it, will be pulling trans and replacing the clutch (if I am that far in, might as well put a new one in). Will keep the post updated.

It can't be master or slave. It's either broken clutch or broken trans. Broken clutch is more likely.

After tearing it down and inspecting the clutch was beyond blown. Pressure plate and disk were both shot. Put it together and she runs and goes into all gears properly. Until 20 mph, then the other crap starts acting up LOL. But that is for another post. Thanks for the help all
