i have been researching alot on here about which clutch to choose. i was leaning towards getting the ACT 2600, but now I am set on getting a Spec clutch.

I was reading on thespeedfactor that the Spec Stage 2 holds up to 375lbs, while the Stage 3 holds up to 415lbs. And I was reading on extremepsi that the Act 2600 holds up to 400. I was going to ask which would be more of a better choice for me?

I don't plan on going to the track much, just like a few times in the summer once a month or so. More of a street driven car. Oh just in case you guys didn't notice, I have a 2G AWD. So which stage clutch do you guys think will be more suitable for me, the Stage 2 or Stage 3?

If your profile is accurate, you really don't need any of those clutches. An OEM unit would work just fine, however if you insist on going aftermarket you should be good with an ACT 2100 or a Spec Stage II. If you plan on really upping the power later on, you should still be in good shape with either one of those clutches.

Hope that helps,

Andy

I love my ACT "2600" clutch. My buddy had ACT "2600" clutch in his '97 TSi AWD and it felt great. I don't think my clutch feels heavy at all in 1G car. In 2G car it feels even few times lighter to me.

ACT Xtreme (2600) clutch combined with ACT XACT Street flywheel feel excellent. :thumb:

I suggest you find someone who has the 2600 clutch and drive their car to see how it feels. There's probably no other way for you to imagine how it feels.

well i was planning to upgrade once i get the turbo-back. i heard alot of stories where the clutch starts slipping once they put the exhaust. i was just wanted to know which one i should get; so i could start planning 2 see how much i will have 2 spend.

id always reccomend an act2600 to anyone getting a new clutch. itl hold a huge amount of power if you ever plan on fixing up your car or going to the track in the future, and i dont care what people say, i have had 2 different 2600's in 2 different cars and they drive just like a stock clutch. they dont chatter and they are not heavy, its all in the way you adjust your clutch pedal.

The problem with clutches is that like exhausts and wheels, it becomes a subjective thing. While quality does factor into the equation, it's really a matter of personal preference until the horsepower becomes fairly high. I've heard nightmare stories about ACT, but I run a 2100 on a Big16G at 19-20psi all day without issue (and yes I like to do an occasional slip launch at 5000 RPM).

Twenty different people will tell you twenty different things. At your stage of development, even with an upgraded turbo, you will not need to hold more than than either the Spec Stage II or ACT 2100 calls for. If you want to go past that and have a bunch of extra headroom that's your call.

Good Luck!

Andy
